Bad electric connector on chassis
Bad electric connector on chassis
I've done a search but can't find an answer. I have an 07 F150 Harley, there is an electrical connector on the chassis below the drivers footwell, it has a plastic shroud to protect it but it still gets filled with water spray. It is showing signs of corrosion & has caused the gas gauge to read incorrectly & today the ABS light has come on which I believe is due to a bad connection in the same connector, has anyone else had a problem with this & what is the best solution? I'm guessing that replacing the connector will get things working again but I don't know where to source one from (I'm in the UK) it really needs better protection from the elements, any suggestions?
Yes I have unplugged it & cleaned it with contact spray, but the pins are very small dia, if I could source the correct pins I would replace them as the connections are still bad.
Pack it with some dielectric grease when finished.
It'll help seal the connectors and the metal contacts without inhibiting electron flow ..... "dielectric".

Here is a photo of the location, I should add that there are actually 2 multi connectors, there are around 20 pins in each connector & I believe that they should both be replaced as there are signs of corrosion in both.

Viewed from below the drivers door, you can just see the transmission crossmember

When I first had a problem with the gas guage & also the rear parking sensors last year I found that the cover was competely full of dirt as it collects everything that comes up from the front wheel. I cleand it all out, drained the water from the connectors & sprayed them with contact cleaner, everything worked fine for 6 months, but recently we have had some pretty bad weather here & now I've got problems again.

Holy mackerel, they sure put those in a bad place didn't they? Even covered they get a lot of crap in there. I'm quite sure my '04 doesn't have anything like that, but I know they changed a LOT of the electrical in the '07 because my SIL has one and it's a lot different than my '04 though the truck looks the same.

I had the same problem with my 06 Larait. I ended up cutting both connectors off and replaced them with Deutch connectors. They are gold plated pins and a weather tight connector. The only problem is they require a special crimp tool, and its not cheap......I happened to have one on my service truck.
No issue with my 07 with 60K miles.
I live in montreal, canada.
Even with all the bad stuff and rustproofing stuff..everything work fine.
Unplugged it a couple week ago to replace fuel filter and everything wasnice in the connector.
