Figured since mine is an 05 with over 110k on it that I'll need it anyway. Just ordered it from Amazon. Maybe this will solve the issue. I had read about it in a few places but couldn't find a solid correlation between this part and its issues being directly connected to the emissions testing issues.

Turns out it was the FPDM. Changed it out today and then hooked up the reader again and they are all passing now except for the Evap monitor. Emissions passes me in VA if only one is Incomplete so problem solved!

old part vs. new part

that definitely sounds weird...generally when monitors aren't ready it's due to either the battery being disconnected, some sort of loss of power, or someone clearing DTC's (fault codes). With no check engine light and no fault codes usually the only resolution is driving the vehicle so it can run through numerous drive cycles. How many miles did you put on it after you installed the FPDM?

I put 750 miles on it the day after the first failed test. I installed the new FPDM this afternoon and drove it MAYBE 5 miles. Plugged the reader in at a red light and I got all of them reading OK except for the Evap Monitor. The battery was unhooked for 30 minutes the day before I drove it 750 miles, the battery being unhooked didn't resolve the tests. I agree that this part being bad can affect this makes this whole scenario weird.

The fact that you got in a drive cycle is why the codes are gone. If the FPDM was bad your truck would not run, period. The evap code IIRC could be a bad gas cap.

dont think he said evap was bad or failed...just that readiness status hadn't changed yet

There were no codes, whatsoever. The truck continuously did not give a reading from 4 of the monitors. Prior to the first test, the truck had been driven for about 5k miles without the battery being unhooked, having to get jumped, anything. The drive cycles were fine yet it still said the test wasn't ready. I understand that if the FPDM was bad the truck wouldn't run. It is NOT throwing an Evap code - there hasn't been a single code thrown (active or pending, I scan it every few weeks) in the time I've owned the truck. The diagnostic when checking the monitoring tests show that the Evap system monitor is incomplete. Coincidence or not I have put this truck through numerous drive cycles - both ones I've read about online and suggested from Ford mechanics since the first failed test and it made absolutely no difference. 5 miles after installing the new FPDM the monitors were giving readings and the problem was solved. Whether this whole debacle was a coincidence or not I was getting nowhere and read in a few places that this remedy worked and thank god it did! I appreciate your help, this forum is full of people with infinitely more knowledge than I possess. Glad to have you folks!

Correct, the monitor indicates Incomplete. Not an active/pending code.

It can take a couple weeks after a battery disconnect for the evap monitor to complete readiness.

The way that FPDM looks, you are lucky it was even running! Did you mount the new one with standoffs to keep it from contacting the axle housing?

Yep, the Dorman part from Amazon came with spacers. I'm still baffled by the fact that I wasn't getting an evap monitor reading after not having the battery disconnected for nearly a year lol

Thats greatWho would belive that the FPDM would cause this issue? I think there are a few members that dont think it was the FPDM,but it only takes 15min to check it out. Your pic is proof that it can cause issues. My sons truck did not throw any codes. I better check my FPDM, i have a 2004 with 37700 miles.

Yep, my dad and I did everything we could find online trying to remedy the situation and decided to purchase a new FPDM as a last resort. I got under the truck and looked at it and immediately was assured that even if this didn't fix the problem - IT WAS NEEDED! the old part literally fell to pieces in my hand. Who knows if this part was what actually fixed it...all I know is that less than 10 miles after changing it all of the monitors were giving readings.
