5.4L Spark Plug removal with an impact
5.4L Spark Plug removal with an impact
Has anyone tried this? Especially since its the opposite of Ford's TSB 08-7-6.
I just don't know if I have the ***** to use an impact wrench on a spark plug, but he makes it look easy.

Not on the threads but on the ground barrel. Nickel anti-seize. The jarring of the impact causes less chance of breakage than the twisting with a socket wrench.
I saw the same video and tried it out. I started with a 12volt Milwakee 3/8 drive impact. It had no effect.....truck had 82000 miles on original plugs. I switched over to a Matco 3/8 drive air impact and was able to get 7 of the 8 out. One of my back plugs broke but it appeared that it may have been broken for a while (truck would miss under heavy load). I did bring the engine up to temp and sprayed PB-Blaster down the plugs. Some came right out some took a foward/reverse sequence before they came. Use this method with caution but it does seem to work best. I would still have the extraction tools on hand.......just in case.
our senior master tech uses his 3/8" impact on everyone he does and he rarely has one to break on him..
