what to do??

I am confused by what I should do. My parents bought a motorhome so they are looking to get rid of their 02 F350 SC DRW 4X4 7.3L PSD with only 65,000 miles which is in great shape and never driven in the winter. Dad mentioned about maybe trading trucks with me, I have a 2004 F150 SC FX4 with 56,000 miles in great shape and never driven in the winter. I was up for trading, just trying to talk the wife into it.

Then my mom had said that since I only put about 3000 miles a year on my F150 (about 1/2 of which are towing our 7000lb camper) and dad only put about 1000 miles on his F350 (when not towing the 5er), she mentioned that maybe we should sell my F150 and keep the F350 then just "share" it (since neither one of us want to see the truck sold being a 7.3L with only 65000 miles and the condition its in).

So I am not sure what I should do...

Granted the F350 would be over kill for a TV for our little 7000lb 26'BH TT, but the F350 also wouldn't hardly know that the camper is back there. Plus if we ever upgrade to a larger camper then we would have enough truck for it.

But I have around $5K of aftermarket goodies dumped into my F150 and it has been my baby for the 7 years I have had it. And I always get complements on how nice the truck looks and I honestly really like the F150. But I also don't want to let dads truck get away, since there are VERY few 7.3Ls like this left.

What do you guys think?

If it's an even trade, I wouldn't even hesitate -- swap the trucks and take the Super Duty.....

Long-term the 7.3L is going to hold more value than the F-150. You can always get another F150, but a quality 7.3 will be impossible to find if that is important to you. You also know how well the 7.3 was cared for so that is worth something.

If you both swap and they keep the F150, I wouldn't hesitate to exchange titles. The 350 will still hold a stronger value while our style F150 will depreciate by the day. I would take the well taken care of F350.

Hey guys! Well, here is what happened. We ended up swapping trucks, but we didn't retitle the trucks into each others names because both of us had just renewed the plates on each of the trucks within a few months prior so we were just going to wait until the plates had to be renewed again to "make it official", which turns out its a good thing we waited. After having their new motorhome for only 3 months my dad couldn't stand driving the motorhome, he was so use to driving a diesel that the V10 in the MH just seemed gutless. So after 3 months my parents (mainly dad) wanted to get a 5th wheel again, and being that its my parents we ended up swapping trucks again and then they traded their MH for a new 5er. So the 04 F150 is still in my garage and the 02 F350 is in dads shop.

I want to get into a Super Duty since now over 60% of the miles I put on my truck is towing our camper, but being that my 04 only has 61000 miles-- it does a pretty good job with the 7000lb camper--and we are putting a big addition onto our house so I have different priority's than a new truck.

I didn't see it was a bump either, but I'd trade no questions asked. I know this guy still has his F150 though. No way in hell I'd ever let that 7.3 leave the family, EVER.

Not everyone sees the 7.3 SC DRW as a better truck. Depends on how the truck is to be used.
I've seen parts costs for repairs of 7.3s and I despise diesel stink and noise and have absolutely no desire to have to watch to make sure the 8 foot wide rear get's through the hole I just went through up in the cab ..... but that's just me and my uses.

Agreed, the DRW would be the deal-breaker for me, for parking and ride quality when running empty. I don't have a problem with the diesel noise/stink, but repairs can get expensive for sure when things go wrong. I'll probably get into a 2013+ F250 SRW in the next few years, but they are miles apart from the 7.3L 'Strokes.
