edwards1687's 04' FX4 - Truck Progress

Hey guys,

I thought I would put together a little build thread for my truck to show the progression since I bought it. I moved to Oklahoma in Jan. 10' and was currently driving a 97' Ford Cobra. Shortly after getting settled down I never wanted to take my car out because I had a 3/4 mile long gravel driveway. So I sold my Cobra in the summer of 10' to buy another truck.

When I began truck shopping, I was specifically looking for a low mileage yellow FX4 supercrew with a sunroof so that narrowed down my options to very few vehicles. After a few months of searching I found "my" truck in Santa Fe, NM. A few days later I was on a plane to purchase my "new" truck. It was one owner, garage kept with just over 49k and it already had Line-X and tint done by the previous owner. After I made the 600 mile trek back to Oklahoma the mod bug began.

The first day I got home with my new truck

One of the first things I did was remove the bug deflector, pin stripe, vent guards, added a 2.5" HBS leveling kit, and painted the headlights and gave her a good wax and clay bar to clean up the appearance.

I later picked up a Saleen grille and had a FX4 decal made to match the bedside decals. Had the mirrors and handles PTM and also painted the fog lights to match the heads. I then added a Smittybilt light bar up front with 4 Hella Black Magic 500 lights.

I've always had a nice exhaust setup on all my previous vehicles but I wanted to keep it clean so I went with a 3" SI/SO setup. I went with deleted rear cats to a new Magnaflow Y-pipe, 14" Magnaflow Magnapack and 4" MBRP Black tip.

Not long after that I came across a Smittybilt Predator bumper guard on Craigslist for $200. I jumped on it because they had been discounted for several years and were impossible to find.

It took a lot of sanding, priming and paint but it turned out good and has been holding up great since August.

Next step was to cover those dreaded cloth seats. At the time of purchase I wanted cloth seats because I have 3 dogs and the leather wouldn't hold up to their wear and tear. I decided to go with Marathon Seat Covers which I would recommend to everyone. They are tough and waterproof and can be customized to fit your needs.

One thing that I always hated on these trucks was the emblems. So I bought some 09+ emblems and spent several hours taping off the letters and painted them DSG to match. A few weeks later I found that the newer ones come apart

I'm not good at documenting all my mods since purchase so here is a list of mods to date:

- Satin black headlights & fog lights
- DIY Harley tail lights
- Saleen Grille w/ FX4 badge
- Weathertech front and rear mats
- Gotts/DWV Mod
- 2.5" HBS leveling kit
- Smittybilt Predator w/ 4 Hella Black Magic 500's
- PTM mirror caps and handles
- PTM DSG 09+ emblems
- Stealth bulbs
- Marathon Seat Covers: Realtree Hardwoods Green HD
- Tow mirrors
- Gryphon w/ 87 Perf. tune
- 3" SI/SO exhaust - Deleted rear cats/Magnaflow Y-pipe/14" Magnapack/4" Magnaflow tip
- Custom painted black Ford emblem (thanks Brent )
- JVC KW-AVX640 Headunit
- 4 Kenwood KFC-C6893PS
- BFG KM2 305/70R17 (34x12.50)
- Mickey Thompson Sidebiters
- Anzo 3rd brake light
- Rancho RS9000 struts & shocks

Your truck came a long way since stock. Very nice. Nice Cobra too, wish I still had mine.

Lastest Mod

Today I finally got my wheels and tires mounted, balanced and installed this afternoon. I went with BFG KM2 305/70R17 (34x12.50) on Mickey Thompson Sidebiters - 5.0" backspace / 0mm offset. The only rubbing I had was the rear corner of the front fender flares. I had to cut off about an 1.5" off each corner. I love the new stance

Here are a few pictures, enjoy!

Some of the future mods I have in mind include:
- Side steps and/or PTM fender flares
- New smoked third brake lights or tinted tails and third brake light
- Magnaflow 35116 4" exhaust tip (the black powercoating is taking abuse)
- Gloss black powercoating bumper guard to match wheels
- OBX long tube headers
...and there always more

This is one of my favorite color combos on the F-150. I love it and you have done a great job with it!

I appreciate it! I'm not going to lie, I was little hesitant about going with yellow at first but I had a vision and it turned out better than I excepted.
