Its the truck or walk, I sure won't be walking 25 miles each way and making to work on time and home safely.

Well it's either drive my truck that gets 14 mpg or drive my other vehicle that gets about 6 so 90% of the time i drive the fuel efficient vehicle

It's the truck or nothing for me, so....I'll just suffer with the high-priced gas prices. But my truck sounds SWEET, so I don't mind

We got a hand-me-down 1988 Volvo from my wife's parents, and I wasn't about to turn it down. As much as I love my truck, I don't love the 14.5mpg. I commute in the Volvo, which is easier to drive and gets 21-22mph. My wife drives my daughter to horseback riding on Saturdays, and we use the truck if we need the storage space. This means we drive about 250 miles per month, so we put it on "RV" type reduced mileage insurance. This saves us about 750/year, even with added insurance and fuel costs for the third car.

I'm with ya. I've been driving my truck hard since Oct '03 when I bought it new. Now it has almost 160k miles on it.
Still runs and looks great but I parked it inside my shop back in December. Now I only drive it when I need a truck.

Bought myself a little Corolla S as my new daily driver and enjoying 35 mpg. I'm now saving enough on gas to make the payments on the Corolla.

I can't justify buying another vehicle just to get a little better gas mileage. It doesn't pay to have another note plus insurance. Were are the savings

Mine has been sitting unless I need to tow or haul something that my Toyota Camry can't handle! I do way too much stop & go driving + commuting to use it on a daily basis! Not using it is saving me $400.00 a month easy! Ill be using it for my vacation trips this summer!

In the situation you described, I agree.

In my case, I got a free car that gets 7mpg more than my '05 F150 SCrew, which saves me a shade over $100/month. Even with added insurance, I'm saving a noticeable amount of money each month, and there's also less wear/tear on my pickup.

I really don't know how much one must spend to get a 30mpg car, and with the miles I drive, that would "save" me a bit over $150/month in fuel savings. These savings wouldn't be enough to make payments on a loan for such a car, especially since one would also have to carry another insurance policy.

One could go the super cheap route and get a beater old Camry or something like that, but that's about it.

Yeah a free car would be nice. I would need a truck for my work, but even a ranger or a Taco wouldn't justify it the smaller trucks I've had didn't really get a hole lot better.

Truck sits during the week and I only drive it maybe 3 times on the weekend, to the store and back. Max 15 minutes. I walk everywhere but that's because I live right off campus so I'd rather take the 20 minutes to walk than drive and pay for parking

i have no choice. min e is my daily commuter. only thing i may do like 2 or 3 days a week is drive to the larger of the towns closest to my work, park in a public parking lot, get my *** on my mountain bike and pedal the last 6 miles to work. i figure up to 36 miles a week over the course of a month should save me about 40 bucks. not life changing savings but little more in my pocket plus im getting some exercise at the same time.
