2wd front hub/rotor change 04-08
2wd front hub/rotor change 04-08
Ok, I can't seem to find any good detailed info on this. Has anybody done this? Is there a need to grease anything? I'm assuming it's just simply pulling off the old hub, installing new one and torquing, since I can't really find any more details than that.
I know you have to grease the bearings on the earlier models.. The ones with the thrust bearings. But I don't think these are thrust bearings, or at least they are not setup like the earlier ones.

Ok, it's done! When really well. Both spindle nuts came right off no problem. Didn't look like there was any place to put any grease, so I didn't bother with that. Everything went together perfect. Centric seems to make some quality stuff. Just hope the bearings hold up.
Thank for the responses guys

do you still have the ebc for sell?
im looking for a good set. can you send pics?
Looks like a very simple straight forward change-over. I was completely unaware of this option for the 04-08. You mentioned "Centric" in your posts, any contact info or links by chance?

I got the Centric upgrade kit (part #120.65128) from Partsgeek.com. My total was like $290 for two kits. You will need to order two of these kits. One for each side. The kit includes hub/bearings, rotor (4x4 style), and spindle nut. Btw, you will need a 300 ft/lb torque wrench for the spindle nut. I ended up having to buy one.
I got the ceramic Wagner TQ pads, and just picked them up from o'reilly's for 60 bucks.

FWIW, I just did mine yesterday (Good Friday) Easy job as long as you have the correct tools (IE: a 300ft lb torque wrench and a 36mm or 1 7/16" socket) and a nice cheater pipe helps too.

I got the Centric Parts 120.65128 kits off amazon for $139 ea shipped via prime
, looking at this picture:

which is the exact same way my shafts looked with that rusty film, I am wondering if we dont need to find the old time dust caps to close up our hubs to keep mositure out? Food for thought, I measured the inside of the new hubs and they mic @ 2.70" ID so I may look for some old time hub dust covers to fit?

Agreed, although you might prevent debris from entering the outside, on the inside there lacks a dust shield as well.
There was the rusty slurry on the spindle when the rotors were removed from my dads '06. On installation of the new rotors, I applied a light coating of grease just to aide in rust prevention or having the races stick. The bearings are sealed non-serviceable units.
Centric is the company that makes Power Slot rotors, and is the parent company of Stop Tech. Check out their website they have plenty of white papers to read on brakes.

Very good thread, I spent more time looking than one would think for this info.
I found this upgrade available from RockAuto http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...rtnum=12065128. listed for 120 $ ea plus 13 $ per axle shipping, so about the same. I suspect they are chinese, and cant really do anything about that but okay with it, just wondering if the wheel bearings are up to the task ? Has anyboby put some milage on the kit with satisfactory results. ? I did check with R/A and you cannot upgrade the rotor, kit is sold complete only...
thanks for the help

updated bearing and cost
Here is a link to Centrics bearing info http://www.centricparts.com/files/F1...20Retrofit.pdf ... Kit # 12065128 is 119.95 from RockAuto plus 12 $ ground shipping to Oakland, Ca . This may vary, I'm not certain on that. This is an upgraded rotor by there info, the standard rotor kit lists @ 114.95 $, that makes it cheap enough to go with better. I will probably match them with Hawk pads .. Sounds like a great upgrade to me, I will post if I run into any problems along the way, so far trying to source the 295 foot pound torque wrench, Autozone has a free loaner program, but there's tops out at 250,
so I may just guess or 12 pack/bribe a local mechanic...
hope this helps
