Talk me out of trading for Tacoma or Ranger tomorrow...pics
The truck's drive train don't care if it's that height or 2" lower and judging from looking at the pics of that clean 06 you have, it hardly ever sees off road jaunts other than throuigh grassy yards or maybe a boat ramp or the parking spots at the local drive in picture show place .... maybe some snow.

If nobody ever bought a new truck, where would we find used ones???? Look guys, I am not a guy that blows money everywhere. I like to have nice, reliable, and practical possessions. I usually get things for low prices, fix or improve them, take care of them, and upgrade or update as the time comes. I did this with our last house, and usually with vehicles. Why not trade when my trade in credit is within $1000 of what I bought it for over three years ago???? I got the use of that truck for 3 years, for $1000. Not too bad. Some people spend that much just in gas in a few months, or, double that on a set of wheels (I don't buy 20's, I generally keep the ones that come with), or a lift, or a stereo, or other "want", instead of a "need". I have never purchased a brand new car or truck. I am at the point in my life where I will buy that one new one, and probably have it for 10 or 12 years. Now is that time.
Thanks for all your help, guys, I have made my decision.

Oh, I see. So, what your saying is it isn't so nice now? I thought you presented the pics as it looks now? Gotcha.
Yeah, they make them and someone needs to buy them, but you came and outlined the reasons you said you were thinking of trading for a Ranger or Tacoma, you asked to be talked out of it, and several of us explained at length how trading for the reasons you initially outlined was not a good idea. There's no argument, it's your money, your truck. We didn't volunteer opinions, you requested them. You said you'ld be happy if mileage was better, the next poster Code58 told you his mileage, I added mine. You talked about room,, we replied, now it's this .....
We want people buying new trucks, Ford wants people buying new trucks. We don't care if that's what you want, we aren't your wife or banker or conscience. We are strangers on the internet. We thought you were serious about your reasons and that you were looking for feedback on those issues, we responded.
Go for it.

I use my truck for these same reasons:
>Yes, I need a truck. I haul trailers, dirtbikes, wood, building supplies, etc.
I went down the smaller truck road, thinking better gas mileage, easier parking, etc. Got a Dodge Dakota crew cab in their version of the FX4. I did like the size, but a little to small overall.
It was always overloaded, it didn't get better gas mileage... unless I took the country roads and drove it 55. People were cramped in the back. Friends would say, your one guy that really uses a truck and you have this toy truck.... this past June I said the hell with it and tracked down a 2006 FX4 Crew Cab.
It has 117,000 on it now. When people see it they think it is nearly new. Everytime one of mine friends climbs into it they say "Damn Dave. This is nice!"
It pulls my 7,000 trailer, with a dirt bike, gear and generator in the back without a whimper or suspension modifications. Cool!
My friend has a TuRD, he says the best he gets is about 17.
I'll be keeping my F150. As long as I'm easy on the throttle I can get 14 - 18 depending on the mix. On the freeway I seldom drive below 70. I have thought about the beater that gets 35+ mpg for bombing around. But everybody loves to take the F150... it had a 105,000 on in June!
Sometimes my only regret is, maybe I should have got the one with fewer miles on it, and it could be 2/3 scale or something, it is big.
I would like to lower mine too, like tbear853 did, looks good!
For road trips, we have an '05 Mustang with a 4.0L, 5 speed, SuperChip program, 2.5" dual SS Magnaflow exhaust that gets 28 - 30 on the freeway @ 70-75mph, 30 - 32 if I drive it nice!

Yes, I asked you guys to talk me out of a ranger or tacoma....and you guys did. I thank you all. Everyone made good points to consider. Sorry about the old pics, they were the only ones I had that were hosted. P.S. That is a sharp truck you have there.
Oh Lordy .... I'm not upset or anything.
I'm here on my right because I enjoy doing this while watching TV on my left, and occasionally I learn or relearn something. Sorry if it appeared otherwise ... "my bad".
It just sounded like you weren't getting what you wanted, I was just laying it out as I saw it. No biggy.
I didn't need my '07 when I bought it, I just "wanted" it. I had a good "old truck", and still have it .... and will have it next year it seems (..... though I should sell it. Just hate to give it away).
Besides the '07 and '77, I have two '90s era T-Birds, a Merc GM, a Forester, and three MCs, I understand getting something you want if you can do so and still eat. I'm old enough to get the Snr discount at IHOP daily and have no kids, just the Wife, the Dog, and me. I'm retired from the state, drawing that pension I contributed towards .... and looks like I may start part time (all I wanted, just enough to get me out some and provide some play money) at Advance Auto Parts soon and then ..... 20% employee discount!
And I still think your truck would make a really sharp looking street ride if dropped 2-3 inches frt and remove the rear 2" blocks .... long and low! Drive nice too!
Take care .... and Thanks!

[QUOTE=dixie_boysles;4766708]No the guy is right, Ford DOES make "true 4-door" crew cab Rangers in Mexico:

Apples and Oranges here. I wasn't saying they didn't make "true" 4 door Rangers in Mexico, was only saying what the OP was seeing was a rather rare S Cab with 4 doors because it added between $900.- $1000. from what I remember many years ago and most people that bought a Ranger didn't want to spend that kind of money to get into an unuseable rear seat. What doesn't sell well most dealers won't put in stock, otherwise they wouldn't be dealers very long.

4 suicide door ranger exist since a LONG time.
my ex-2001 ranger had it.
Space wise: it no where near close to the f150.
Fuel economy wise: my ex ranger 3L 5Spd only got 1-2Mpg better then what my f150 5,4 is doing.
With the new f150: 09+ the fuel economy is about the same as the ranger 3L.
The 4L ranger is thristy one..forget about it...it's worst then the f150.
Reliabilty: Have done more the 170K miles on my 1987 2,9 5spd whitout any problem.
120K miles on my 2001 3L 5Spd whitout any big problem(biggest being the clutch and diff gear(but that's my fault).
My dad have done more then 150K with is 1995 2,5L 5spd
I love Ranger: but for the interior space...prefer my f150. And you would too with your kids.
The Chevrolet Canyon crew or dakota crew have great interior space though.

I remember when I was looking at trucks in '07-'08 and we looked at a Colorado ext cab...the Chevy salesman said "It's got an inline 5, just like a Jag".
My response was, "Yeah, but it won't run like a Jag, will it?" To that, his grin turned upside down and he realized I was buying.
After that, we started looking at the older model Sierras. I found one with the 305 that was a nice shade of green, almost got it. But I'm much happier with my FORD
