truck bucks while under load?

hey everyone.....so my 04 5.4 f150 has a issue.....i know the tranny might b on its way out but i just wanna make sure that some1 else has the same problem. so while driving up a hill or small incline and accelerating mildly the truck like....shutters or bucks. its a quick buck but will continue in these little bursts. soo tranny.....rear.....? who knows? and i dont think its the motor because that remains constant. no drop in rpm or engine noise

Had a similar issue in my '06. Changed Fuel Filter and tranny fluid. Issue is gone now.

spark plugs where just done and the tranny got flushed with synthetic ( which helped the tranny but i was still told to consider a new one) but my fuel filter is probaly due. I'll try that and see what happens. also i just changed that IWE soleniod to avoid any problems with the actuators. (I guess the new ones come with a plastic rain cap haha) but I dont think that could be a issue.....

I had this issue a while back and I thought it had to be spark plugs and coils but it turned out to be the fuel filter. Anyway its the least expensive to change first

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a coil going bad. Never threw an engine code and I would have sworn it was transmission related.

Had similar problem...dealer tore into transmission and found a couple of broken snap rings...but that didnt fix it. They also did tranny fluid flush.

Turned out to be #3 coil. I was very insistent that it was the overdrive.

It had started back up...changed #1 coil seems to have gone away. Worrking on changing all remaining coils since I am at 120K miles...

kc your problem was only in overdrive around quarter throttle? And if you kicked it down into a lower gear it would go away?

Yuuup!

Around 40-45 mph (1000 to 1300 rpm), would shift into ovrdrive, and give 2-3 jerks...if I was going up a hill, I could make it do it on demand. It was always immediately after it shifted into overdrive...Around 40-45 mph (1000 to 1300 rpm)

If you turn off the overdrive, it wouldn't do it. That is why I thought it was the overdrive...?

Funny thing...I think the coils are crapping out one at a time...replaced#1,2,5. 3 was done back in september. I will probably do the remaining ones next payday...

The truck gave no codes, CELS no nothing! I even bought a scanner/code reader trying to figure this out!

I got a simalar problem, my buddy is a ford mechanic he said to him it felt like torque converter but we are gonna do the plugs and fuel filter once i get the extra money, no check engine lights or codes its like if i am in o/d and give a little throttle not only going up a hill but on flat road to unless it kicks down into a passing gear its almost a guarrentee it will do it

I had the same thing happen. If I turned OD off, bucking would stop. Mine was the #8 coil. Replaced the coil and it fouled up again. Needed new plugs. That took care of it for me!

I would have sworn that it was overdrive going out on my transmission too!

Drive it so you force it to misfire and keep misfiring, and it should eventually trip the CEL and store a code.

So in the last week my #8 coil finally went...

As posted above, It started as the jerking when the truck shifted into overdrive. It got progressively worse, but still no codes. I took it for a drive to an area where I could get it to repeatedly jerk, and it finally gave a code for #8 cylinder misfire. Replaced coil with BWD from local auto parts store, and it went away. I've done almost a thousand miles since Wednesday, and it seems good. Also replaced #4 coil. Only 2 more to go til all of the coils are changed out.

BTW...#4 coil is a b#@$c to get to...#8 was easy!

Regards!
