2005 5.4 Sparkplug insanity
Really, this is too much.
Almost one year ago to the day I go through this saga: Sparkplug Purgatory
Today I get my truck back after taking it in, to a different dealer of course because it was throwing codes (p0305, p1635) and running like I was driving on a washboard. It cost me another $800+ and the paperwork states, "misfire on #4, #5 & #6, replace all plugs (loose) replace 7 coil boots" WTF?!?!
If you looked at the thread above you'll see the OEM 75,000 mile plugs, pretty much clean as a whistle. Now get a load of these that have right at 15,000 miles on them.

Plug on far right was in #4 cylinder, looks like it has 100k or more worth of miles on it. Electrode is completely gone! Why do those plugs look so bad you ask? This truck has no oil leaks. They appear to have been loose enough that fuel was being pushed past them out of cylinders. The bag they gave me with the plugs and boots REEKS of gasoline.
Not to mention they look like they came off some 200k plus mile vehicle that had never been serviced and leaked enough oil that it never needed changes, just add a quart every week. ONE sparkplug is clean. Lousy tech at JORDAN FORD last year managed to CORRECTLY install one lousy sparkplug.
Guess who's gonna have a sit-down with Jordan Ford's general manager next week?
Thank you to Bluebonnet Ford in New Braunfels for fixing JORDAN FORD'S SCREW-UP and fixing the cam phaser problem that JORDAN FORD never even diagnosed!

I wouldn't get to fired up, I have had to tighten the plugs in mine twice now. Yes I did the plug change myself and tightened them to specs. I kept getting a feul smell so the last time I did it like I have all other vehicles I have changed, tighten till you KNOW they will stay. I will garantee the factory plugs mine were tighter than the recomended specs.
I changed out mine, torqued to spec never had an issue. That was 40K miles ago
I torqued mine to factory spec. 27 ft lbs. he may have possibly put anti sieze on the threads messing with the torque values.

No never sieze on the threads, pulled and checked. Look up I smell gas fumes, you will find out it is more common than you think. I would say your lucky that none of them blew out and messed up the threads. Not trying to be a ***** about this I would just feel lucky that you cought it before major damage happened, I've had dealers do worse. And this is why I love this website and being able to turn my own wrenchs!!
