Removing a Lift / Costs?
Hi Guys,
I am considering removing the 6" lift on my truck and would like to get an idea as to what that would entail and the costs, if possible.
My 2005 FX4 was originally purchased with the lift on it from the dealer so I do not have any OEM parts for it.
Has anyone done this and can tell me about their experience / cost? Also...when it is removed is there any value to it that could help offset any costs?

you might try to find someone interested in the lift that can send you their stock parts. if someone has a truck that they want lifted, and has a daily driver, then they can send you stock parts and you can have the swap done and send the lift back. thats my only idea, since buying all new parts at the dealer is going to cost an arm and a leg.
TO put on a 6" lift you almost surely had to cut some of the stock frame/mounting area out of the front. To return it to stock you would have to get that and weld it back on in exactly the same spot as it was originally
What mossyoak said. Another alternative is to find out if the same lift kit came in a lower height, say 4". Beyond that, you'd be better off selling the truck and buy one that is not lifted because I think it's going to be expensive to lower it. If you do choose to lower it, since suspension component brackets were cut out to lift it, I'd make sure whoever converts it back is worth their salt.
Thanks for the input guys.
This thought was being driven by my quest to try and improve my city MPG (11mpg) by reducing the size /weight of my tires while improving responsiveness overall. I already have a SCT Programmer so, since I am going to have to buy tires, I may as well either replace my 33 inch tires or get gears and move to 35's.
Gears may help me in driving Austin's hills but I am not sure I want to spend 1600-2K right now.

To retain your lift, the gears in 4.56 will help your city mpg in the hilly areas drastically. I would try to save for the gear swap.

Mine is a 4x4 but I am still unclear about everything that would need to be done.
For example...what needs to rewelded, new springs / shocks(?), etc... I will ask the local 4wheel parts guys what they would need to do to get a better understanding and then decide what I am going to do.
