gears?
gears?
how do i figure out what gears i have? i kno to check the door sticker but idk what the codes mean and would rlly like to kno my gears since i got lift and 35's, so i can see if i need to regear also whats the best gears for me? i do 75%city/25% highway? i want my mpg the best i can get em at.
If you had the 3.73 it wouldn't be too big a deal to leave it if you didn't pull much but with the 3.55 I would upgrade to the 4.10 at least maybe 4.16 but anything above that would be a bit of over kill in my opinion. I talked with a guy with a 6" lift and 35's and he pulls a 20' trailer loaded with ATV's and other toys on a regular basis and he upgraded to 4.16's and was amazed at the power and MPG he got back.
oh man thats crappy no wonder i felt so much power loss. yea im deffinately upgrading gears. so 4.16's should be good? i was think 4.10's b/c i thought 4.56 would be over kill i didnt kno that there was other gears choices in between where can i find out more/better info on gear ratios?
I have never heard of 4.16 gears before, who makes them? How much more improved are they over 4.10s?

Just driving a truck alone ... 3.73s or 4.10s might improve city MPG ... or maybe not?
For certain, it'll take a long - l-o-n-g time to repay you the costs of swapping gears in both axles (but you would see a noticeable effect in throttle response and acceleration / deceleration with the 4.10s). If mileage alone is your reasoning however ... if you don't tow ... and keeping in mind that stock rubber is 32" tall ..... I wouldn't bother with the swap.
For sure, pulling that load routinely he'ld see a huge benifit. 4.10s would likely even help him with stock 31-32" rubber.

My mistake I went back to read the thread from the other guy and had it a bit confused. He put 4.56's in his truck and then had 4.16's in another vehicle. They do not make 4.16's for our trucks from what I know. Sorry to confuse. The 4.10's would be good for your purpose.
I have a 5.4 with 35s and 4.56s. I love it. Seems like the perfect combo to me. I rarely ever get over 2000rpms accelerating in the city. Since you do 75% city driving I would get the 4.56s. I'm getting dual magnaflows put on saturday so I'm sure I'll be getting into higher rpms after that
SO JUST GET THE 4.56s? im confused idk though i just put my level 2 (tow) tune and CAI n its wayyyyyyy better but shifts kinda hard and quited my exhaust a lot which it was crazy loud before so not to big a deal im see how it is the next cpl months like this since i been seein avg 13.5-15 mpg now so im ok with that
