2004 F150 engine bogs down
Mine is doing the same thing.......only once in a while.
I am also having a problem with my 4 wheel drive. my passenger side iwe is grinding when I am on the gas and above 45-50 mph. The problem that I am having is my iwe is losing vaccum when i am on the gas and going about that mph.
This has been doing this for the past year or so, and I have notice my mpg's way down (13-14 mpg in the city and nothing over 15 on the highway). I used to get 16-17 in the city and over 20 on the highway. So something is wrong.
What im thinking is that my cats are plugged. which could be causing my vaccum lines for the 4x4 to lose vaccum? Just a though, what do you guys think?? i am losing my mind over this!

Never thought to check that. Good one!
With that bad seal it can definitely suck in dirty air and/or more importantly "unmetered" air causing issues.
Just looked at mine and the seal was totally rotted and gone.
I cleaned it off and installed a new foam strip. I'll see how it does going home from work today and report back.
Got my hopes up

ford bogging down during accelaration
okay, guys I had the same symptoms as what everyone describe, my would bogg down on acceleration and had no codes come up, my is 2006 with 39000 miles,so I took it to the dealership and the found out that it was the B Ball check valve in the transmission, it is the size of a (bb gun) bb. I guess it was getting stuck and would jump to a higher gear this cauing the bogging,
You guys should check out this thread from another forum. My truck was bogging pretty bad and moaning a little I did this and it's all better. http://www.f150forum.com/f4/bog-down...solved-166431/
Ok...I posted earlier that I was having a similar problem...so for less than $5 I picked up some 3/8" foam tape from lowes...my foam gasket has been gone for some time...
I can definitely feel some difference...it does seem to idle smoother.
I did look at the MAF readings with my scanner. They are roughly the same as before at about 0.87-0.93 at idle...
Regards!

Hey on the 2004 to 2008 F150's i would check the Fuel Pressure Drive Module. Its $100 to $110 at AutoZone and comes with a lifetime warranty. Dorman makes it and its a improved unit. Comes with spacers so the sensor isnt awkardly bolted to the truck. Anyway, mine didnt go bad, no codes nothin. just dropped the spare and saw it and it was broke. They get awful nasty, corroded and they even brake due to the corrosion, hope you get that truck runnin good
So, its been about a week since doing the gasket mod/repair...I have put over 600 miles on since doing it...
It has made a big difference in the bogging issue...I drove from the Sacramento area to Lake Tahoe, and Sacramento area to Reno in the last five days, and the truck pulled up the mountains sooo much better. I still have a little bogging around 50 mph, but its not as bad. The truck runs almost as new. No improvement in fuel economy though...
FWIW!

I went through the whole process. Plugs, coils, fuel filter, checked the cats, MAF, TB, nothing worked. Then I read on here about the FPDM. Found one on Amazon for $53.00 (free 2 day shipping). Went ahead and ordered. I figured mine would be all corroded with 209k on the truck and living by the coast. It looked fine, no corrosion, cracks, nothing. Went ahead and replaced it. That must have been the problem. No bogging, truck is running better than I could ever remember. It use to "struggle" or maybe I was too cautious to take it over 75. I was driving and passing people and looked down, crap I doing 95, and didn't realize it. If you have not changed it out, do it.
Yup. Sounds like mine. When it is warm out it feels like a dog. No power. Doesn't spit any codes. Real drag trying to tow on a nice day or even just driving around. 267km is about 166k miles. New plugs, vct's were done before I bought it, fuel filter, cleaned MAF and TB. Was thinking cats might be clogged too. Curious to hear if the FPDM helped. Time for a new truck.
Mine just started doing this as well. 2004 FX4, 182k. Using a KN Filter intake with everything else stock. I guess I'll be starting the process as everyone else has. Also, man this engine sure does like to sound like a hard drive crunching from time to time. Sometimes I never hear it, then for a few days it does it.
