HELP!!! steering wheel shake while braking
has anyone experienced steering wheel shake while braking. cruising the truck is smooth. but when i hit the brakes it shakes bad. the harder i stop, the more it shakes. in other cars i had it was fixed with new rotors and an alighnment.
i ordered crossdrilled rotors hopefully that does the trick. im wondering if it could be ball joints/tie rods or something of the sort

My wifes Accord just had the exact same thing happen to it, after 346.00 for turning all four rotors, new ceramic pads, and 4 tires high speed balanced it stops like butta ... sooner or later she'll figure out that nose dives at the stop lights and signs are bad for the brakes! (maybe), oh and an oil and filter change!

thanks guys. my fiance had the same problem with a 06 solara but it happened without braking at freeway speeds. turned out to be rotors. same with a old corolla we use to have. same w/ alignment.
i exsamined my rotors and and the front driver one has a glazed spot. i have no idea how it got there. then i felt the back side. it is badly gouged. hopefully i didnt get past the pad. i never heard and skreetching.
i already ordered some crossdrilled rotors and pads for 122 shipped. i dont believe in turning rotors. my truck has 86k on the body and they make these rotors so thin to begin with that if you turn them they have x2 the chance of warping.
FYI the 04 f150 have a tsb 5-21-19 on the rotors. you must count the fins in the middle of the rotor, if they dont have 47 fins you should replace.

Learn to slow down some and anticipate stops and on long down grades that require braking, push that button and kick the OD off.
Whatever it takes man .... lighten up on them brakes.
Not sure how it applies to you, but those taller wider heavier oversize tires also greatly shorten brake life.
Mine aren't thin ..... they are bigger and thicker than the ones on my '77 by a bunch.

slow down??? yeah right, get real!!!
haha just kidding, believe it or not im pretty easy on the brakes with gas prices the way they are. last time i looked the pads were at half-life.
i use to kick overdrive off, until my o/d band went and i had to pay for a new tranny. now i dont do that. i dont know if it had something to do with it but brakes are a lot cheaper then trannys.
i think it applies to anyone with bigger,heavier,wider tires and rims... you wanna play got to pay!!!! and remember PIN IT TO WIN IT
The brakes in our trucks aren't bad and usually can be resurfaced and turned once after that the rotors usually warp and have to be replaced. I have done service once on my brakes and figure I will get close to 90k before having to do something again. At that time I will upgrade to EBC rotors and pads.
Well, back in the days before OD when you let up, the vehicle slowed. Now, in OD, you find yourself using the brakes a lot when you would never have thought of it in the old days.
About slowing down .... just offering suggestions to save on brakes.
Pushing the button and locking out OD on long grades or in slow traffic or when the trans was likely to hunt didn't kill the band.

Which is a good reason to upgrade to a hub retrofit kit to have them both separate.
I replaced my pads and rotors on the front at 65k with Centric ceramic pads and premium rotors - I now have 140k on the truck, the inspection station says I have plenty of brakes left, and the rears are still original.

i appreciate the input, your almost as bad as the old lady.

me hauling *** then using the button to slow down prolly not a good idea.
