Console

Are the flow-thru consoles for the SuperCab and SuperCrew the same length and dimensions? I've seen them with plastic extender pieces and without--didn't know if I would need the pieces to fit one properly in my SuperCab or if it would sit flush against the dash trim piece.

Are you comparing the flow through console and the XLT console?

That might be it, Stealth. The flow-through bumps against the dash right? And the XLT needs the side pieces? Or am I backwards?

The flow through console has a different dash than the trucks that don't have the flow through console. I have a supercrew truck that originally had a jumpseat and changed it out for the xlt console. It is a simple R/R swap. Changing a non flow through console to a flow through console requires a conplete dash change.

Stealth,

So I couldn't just pull the jump seat/console and replace it with the flow-through? I didn't plan on hooking up the air flow/rear vents (I knew about the different dash bottom piece), just wanted a higher-end console in my STX that would bolt down.

You can do the XLT console which is what I have. It looks like this.

This will work, right? I just need to fab up a end piece to match it up to my dash?

I know ccla never finished his project, but the console itself looks like it bolts on.

Not trying to be difficult Stealth, but I'm working on picking up a FT console for around $100 and I really don't have the money for anything more right now. As long as it bolts in, I can fab up a piece to connect the console to the dash.

Yeah that would work. If you want the shifter functional though there is thread out there for that too.

I was thinking of leaving it as a column shifter--I've heard changing to a floor shifter is a pain the ****.

Just saw FX4&Excursion's maps for hooking the floor shifter up, and you are right Pat.

Doesn't look too hard, but do you have to drill holes in the floorboard? Cause I'm not too keen on doing that...

I only said that because i put an 04-08 shifter in my 2003 truck.

yes you have to drill a hole in the floor, and put a grommet in the hole where you pull the old shifter out. For me it was worth it, much more comfortable and fun to have the shifter on the console instead of on the column

From the research I've done the hole in the floor for the new shift cable is already there....scroll down a few and you'll see it.

And here's a thread showing how to adapt a flow through to a dash that isn't built for it. This is how I plan on building mine when the right time comes along....again, scroll down a bit

Just to update, I'm still planning on doing this conversion as soon as my console arrives. My interior is grey and black, while the console is out of a Lariat so it has the tan lid.

I plan on painting the lower portion of the console black to match my floorboard, and I'm fixing to post in the For Sale/Wanted about getting a black lid, either leather or composite material, not too picky

Update: Console is here (thanks Tailrace) and once it is cleaned up, I'll start pulling the jumpseat out...
