Truck doesnt start...

ok so 2 weeks ago my truck didnt start, wiggled the battery cable and it started

week ago same thing, took a bit more wiggling and disconnected and reconnected battery to get to start

today it did it again, could not get it to start

when it doesnt start there is no clicking as if there is a dead battery, i checked the battery its at 12.5 volts, there is constant power to the starter, the relays do click on when key is put to start (again not repeatedly like a dead battery), zero volts on the start signal wire going to the starter even when key is on start, was going to jump the terminals to see if it would crank over, but id rather not being that my frame is 4" off the ground and i barely fit under there and dont have my floor jack at my apartment. i took the brain of the alarm out but that didnt help. not too sure where to go from here, pretty sure it is a wiring problem or possibly a bad relay, but not too sure

ok a little background of my truck:
05 5.4
code ca671 alarm(possible culprit)
jlt intake
longtube headers
hi flow cats
efans
tuner
lowered 4.5/8

so tomorrow i plan to take all the wiring for the alarm out to completely eliminate that as a problem, but i highly doubt that it the problem

Recently I have had an issue with my transmission switch and the symptoms are similar. Drop the truck into gear and back to park, and then try to start it. I am not exactly sure what the problem is, but I have not had it happen more than 2-3 times over the last year. For some reason the truck doesn't think it is fully in park and obviously you can't start the truck in reverse or drive.

also i have noticed the shift indicator is not in the same position as it was before the new trans....this is why i usually dont let people work on my truck, but my reman trans i had bought 2 years ago had a warranty and they had to do the warranty work

I had the same symptom after I got my motor back in a couple weeks ago. It was the transmission gear position sensor. There is a plastic clip that you can use to adjust it with and it was un clipped so even though it would move it to park it didn't go far enough to register with the sensor that it was in park. Just use a flathead screw driver and unlock it with the tranny and gear shifter in park and push against it and then lock back again. This should remove the slack that may be there.

thanks, that definitely sounds like my problem....i hope

There is a bracket on the shift cable that bolts to the the bell housing, from there the cable goes back to the lever that bolts to the shifting input on the side of the tranny. The position sensor is installed on this shaft to sense the position and the cable and lever is keyed to fit onto the shaft. But the point where the cable is connected to the lever there is a plastic clamp that has about 1.5" of adjustment there. You just unlock it and move it in the direction you need to adjust and lock it again.

ok, now i know what you are talking about, i usually just unbolt the mount and the arm on the trans, but the guys at ford must have disconnected it there when they were working on it

The adjustment is built into the plastic piece that connects the cable to the keyed arm that goes on the shaft coming from the tranny. It's just a plastic clip that closes it tight onto the cable after you adjust it to the positon you want it. It took me a couple tries to get mine adjusted so that when I put the shifter in park it actually registered with the sensor.

The trucks with the flowthru console and shifter have a park over ride button inside the center console just for a situation like this, you should have one somewhere in the cab of the truck.
