Plug Change
I just changed plugs on my second 5.4. This truck had 130k on the clock and all 8 broke. My advice would be to have a motorvac service done before the plug change or at least run some techron thru the tank. I believe on the plugs I just changed that they all broke as soon as I tried to unscrew them. Soaking them in carb cleaner didn't seem to make a difference on this truck. I would be inclined to use an impact next time. I followed the TSB except I used b12 carb cleaner instead of the motorcraft stuff. Good luck on the plug changes.
With prep and everything else our shop is right at an hour.....oil change included in that time also.....
I started with a hot engine and broke all plugs loose and filled them part way full of Seafoam Deep creep. Then worked the plugs back and forth. The plugs that broke, broke on the first little bit of turning. The last plug against the firewall on the drivers side I couldn't get to turn but a little bit then it would jam on the carbon, on this plug I used my 18 volt impact. It hammered for a second then spun right out, I figured I would be using the Lisle tool on that one also but low and behold it came out in one piece. My next time will be with the cordless impact on all plugs. In total I would say about five hours in the job with an oil and fuel filter change included.
