Flawless Spark Plug Swap

I just changed my plugs with out any problems. I have 146k on the truck and had waited for a drop in economy before electing to do the swap. The MPG never dropped and I just felt bad having gone 46K over the schelduled maitenance, so I decided to go for it expecting the worse. All eight came out in one piece. I did this with a warm engine. I cracked the plugs loose about a 1/4 turn, and hit each hole with a moderate spray of CRC pentrating fluid. I then let it sit for no more than 15 minuets and I dove in. I was cautious to stay centered over each plug, and did not allow the extension to deflect if at all possible. I worked each plug back and forth. When the resistance seemed to peak I would tighten the plug a half turn or so and then proceed removing.

It did improve the throttle response quite a bit. I honestly didnt expect that I would feel any diiference, as the old plugs were still in pretty good shape. The amount of errosion was not bad considering how long I ran them. It is a work/personal rig and I drive 30+ K miles each year. I get 16-17 MPG when mostly on the free way. We will see after a couple days on the road if I gain any fuel ecnomy.

That's good to hear!

When I did mine I didn't notice any increase in mileage but it did change the way it ran for the better.

Worried...

...this thread kinda has me worried. I just purchased a 2005 F150 XLT two days ago. Is there a known issue in removing the old spark plugs in these trucks?

Use the Advanced Search in the bar at the top of the page. Enter broken spark plugs and you should have lots to read.

In reading the thread you linked, it seems everyone that's having issues has the V8... Mine has the V6. Am I going to run into the same issue? I attempted to search "v6 broken plugs" and the search system removed it for being too common...

It is only the 5.4 3v manufactured between 2004-2008 that has the issue
