Center console shifter replaced

I have been battling a shifter that would randomly lock up and not shift out of park. I replaced the switch that attaches to the brake pedal and that did not fix it. I lived with it for a month or so. I found the white button next to the shifter under the center console to bypass it. I took my truck in on Monday for the air bag recall and they said my shifter was bad. I bit the bullet and paid $600 for them to install a new one, even though I could have installed it in a matter of 15 minutes. I asked the service tech if this is common and he said mine is only the 2nd one he has seen this happen to. My truck is a 2005 with 70k on it.

Now I have to put my leather shifter cover back on.

Here are some pictures I took yesterday after a full detail. She still looks like brand new inside and out.

If it's the same switch I have (07) and I think it is......my dealer quoted me about $100.00 for the interlock switch that you are referring to.

I would have bought the whole shift tower from Tasca and updated it to the newer style. The 07-08 150s had the same unit that was installed in the lincoln mark LT so the factory leather shift handle (that only came in the lincoln) is a direct bolt in.

I replaced the switch on the pedal myself. That part was $55. On Monday they replaced the entire shifter assembly in the center console. I searched and some people talk about an interlock solenoid under the shifter. That was not what I replaced before. I replaced a black switch that attaches to the brake pedal that tells the shifter to shift out of park when you press the brake pedal. It also controls the brake lights.

I did not think about updating to the newer style. I just wanted it fixed.

See below circled in red. This is an old picture. The leather cover needs to be moved to my new shifter.

Yep..that's what I'm talking about..forgot to say also, the whole shifter assy. was quoted at about $200.00. and the interlock we are talking about was $100. Sounds like the dealer got a few $$ from you.

Was that price for the entire shifter assembly or just the top lever part that you move? They replaced the whole thing on mine, not just the lever. The entire assembly is held in with 4 bolts below the console.

I just looked it up. It is part #4L3Z7210CD. The cheapest I found was over $300. The dealer told me it was over $400.

you should of just bought the black box that attaches to the side of the shifter, that would of saved you alot of money, same problem happened to my dads 04 fx4, so i shoved a piece of plastic in on top of the over ride switch, cheap fix

Don't have the part # for the 07, but the dealer quoted $206, and that was for the whole assembly....I do have a very good dealer up here (and parts guy)

Leave the guy alone for Christ sake. The repair bill was paid, he doesn't need eleven people questioning the deal he got.

It's not a big deal. I am all for saving money but there are times when it is easier to just pay someone else to do it.
