Headliner questions..

Hey guys, just wondering...how hard is it to remove the headliner and re-install it? Will it ever go back on properly/snug?

I need to remove it to run the wires for a reverse camera project I'm thinking about.

Thanks for any help!

Ive got an reg cab and it was no problem at all-take off the pillar covers and trim-it just pops off, pillars have a screw, take down the light, and the coats hooks-the coat hooks were the hardest part-they have some kind of special clip inside that I bent up pretty good-I used a small flathead screwdriver. I've heard the ext cab is the same but the screw has to remove the back window.

Cool, thanks. If anyone else can chime in, please do!

Also, does anyone have any pics of the roof (interior) with the headliner removed? Would love to see how the wiring is..

Thanks!

I can't imagine why you'd want to run reverse-camera wires there, but whatever it's your truck. I'f your "idea" is to mount a camera up high on or near the center stop lamp, I don't think that's a good idea unless you just enjoy looking at your bed.

headliners are pretty easy to remove..just remove all the trim panels and the weaterstripping and it will come down..not sure why you're having to remove the headliner to just run wires though..you should be able to route them along the sides of the headliner..i've done xm antenna wires and tv wires that way for years without having to remove the complete headliner..

Well the wires would be coming through the third brake light following the brake light wires, so that's why I would need to remove the headliner.

Actually, it's a really good spot...I've already tested it by holding the camera in that area, and you see a LOT more.

You don't need to remove the headliner to run the wires there. I did Code 3 outfitting and had to run a TON of stuff in the roof area and never once removed a headliner. Use electrical "fishing" cables. I made my own from both 1/8 in. cable and 3/16 cable. The 3rd brake wires travel over and down the left rear cab post and down the left rocker channel. You should have NO problem "fishing" the cable from the 3rd brake light to the LR post even with a welding rod or straightened coat hanger. Only a masochist would remove the headliner to do that job.

You a see "A LOT MORE" of what? You lose pinpoint accuracy as well since you can't see directly behind the tailgate. That means if you are trying to hitch up to a trailer or put your bumper two inches from the garage wall, your camera will be worthless! I understand where you are coming from thinking you can see a larger area behind the truck, but you have basically turned your camera into a rear-view mirror. What's the point?

How true. I believe Ford actually offered one mounted in that area (3rd brake lite) within the last few years. It has been since the NB in '04. Only ever remember seeing one, on a dealers lot. Must not have gone over very well.

Awesome, didnt think Id be able to snake them through...thanks guys!

Yea thats basically what Im going after...a rear view mirror...for certain reasons. Its gonna be part of my whole 'truckputer' set-up. I might put a camera in the usual spot as well, but for my needs it may not make much sense. We'll see.

How do you remove those bars down the middle of the roof that hold the extra accessories onto the roof?
