most shops have the attitude that they know everything. i once had the trans fluid done on my jeep. the next morning it was smoking down the highway (overfilled and leaking out ). when i went back there was too much in it (as i had seen too on the dipstick) he then informed me that you check the level of the trans fluid with it running in park , on my jeep its done running in neutral. the manual says so. he even has a sign saying they service cars according to their owners manuals. idiot.

now i know though to check the levels of the stuff people change for me, when i dont do it myself.

Seems weird to pay someone to change you oil then check it. it's like going to a restaurant and having to cook for yourself.

It more like filling your own beverage and getting refills.....not that big of a deal....there are restaurants like that.....

As a matter of fact, he said he hates re-selling the 07 engines.

What's y'all take on that statement??
Biased mechanic that had one bite him.....basically the swap went over budget and racked up a lot of labor that wasn't billable.....

tbear it's funny you say you change your wife's oil because for years I've asked my husband to teach me & his reply is "No because you would have no need for him then!"

You husbands out there that have knowledge are totally awesome. I have a husband myself that is pretty handy & that makes a difference. So for those men that have some sense....Thank You!!

Thats a bummer, I would of made them drain the oil and see EXACTLY how much was in there. I might of even went as far as record it, and snap a few pics of the dip stick.

I worked in an oil change place for about 2 years before I got into collision repair. I can tell you from those 2 years, some of the workers are VERY careless and dont care about your car. I've seen them not change a single oil filter their entire shift, and sometimes put the wrong oil in, wrong amounts, even the wrong fluids in the wrong places...lol I saw a few engines get messed up, from wrong filters, or double gaskets. I only stripped one oil pan in that 2 years, which is a good track record from what I've seen others do.

I'm very picky about my vehicles and try to do everything myself, and only let people I or a family member trust do things I cant.

to the OP!!!!

I was going to say if this doesnt pull into your favor- go to the media. That dealership would hate to be put on the local newspaper with a testimonial from one of their angry customers

Good luck with the claim

I had the opposite happen to me once, which I did not discover before I checked the oil at 1500 Miles the dipstick was just about dry and I had to add 3 Quarts to get up to the full mark after that episode I check every thing before leaving the shop.

I did that last summer...

"what a mess" is a large understatement

I noted it in my service records as "flushing" the oil... hopefully it helped clean out the oil pump & pan
