come on ups man ! gryphon questions

give me my gryphon! hurry up.

i plan on posting pics when i get it, and if the pod color is off i will be matching it and post pics of that.

2 dumb questions.

to install when it says key on thats the actual on position right? the 2nd click? the first is just accessories i believe. so the ac should come on, and the beeping should slow down and all that. i know to keep radio off, and the ac off and all that so my battery wont die, im just making sure my idea of the key being on is right.

2nd, when i load up the level two canned tune, if for some reason i need to jump a car or something, i do need to unplug it correct? when i do that, will the tune be still loaded into the truck? meaning it will still be running on the stronger shifting 87 octane towing tune? meaning if the pod doesent match after i load the tune up and drive it i can disconnect the tuner from the truck in order to get the pod off to paint it and let it dry and all that and i can still be running on the 87 octane tune? the rule is if you unplug or plug it into the obd2 port the key has to be on, but the engine cant be running right?

To load a tune turn the key to the point the air bag, battery light etc etc comes on, 2nd position.

If you unplug the gryphon the tune will still be on the trucks computer. When plugged in the unit is just a readout of whatever selections you want to monitor. The only way to unload a tune is with the gryphon unit.

If I understand the process correctly the gryphon stores your trucks stock tune in its memory and replaces it with the tune that is loaded.

For the gryphon to be useful to anyone else your truck would have to be returned to stock emptying the gryphon of your trucks stock tune so someone else could put theirs on it. And of course they would have to get a tune written for their trucks computer.

im not planning on selling it ever, i was just curious how that worked. i saw a few used for sale and was kinda sketched out about it.

i dont have to update it before plugging it up correct? just follow the install instructions in the 2nd post (since i have no custom tunes) in the thread about installing one and run with it?

what are these tabs it came with? its one L bracket tab, and a piece of velcro. i guess you stick the L bracket to the pod, then the velcro to the bottom and stick it down to the dash?

I didn't use any of the velcro or L brackets. Just snapped the pod to the dash and the tuner in the pod. Doesn't move.

sooooooo does this mean im going to need a trans here in the near future?

just random ones i took on the highway with the cruise set and the tc locked. what are the two peramaters that are supposed to be equal. when the tq was locked the rpm and the tss were always very close to one another, within 2 or 3 digits, and the oss was always higher. is that right? the oss should be 1.7 times (.70 is the 4th gear ratio) the tss if its in fourth correct? thats off if thats the deal.

do your numbers match exactly when the tq is locked? i found some post about an allison diesel trans and they say it should be within 5rpm, anything over 15 is considered slipping.

it drives great however. the shifting will take some getting used to.

another thing i noticed, when on the highway with the cruise set and you go down a hill, it has to slow down, i always thought it just coasted, but it was unlocking the torque converter for a second or two then locking it back up, and then unlocking trying to get down to its speed.

anything else i need to check out?

I will try to remember to take a look at mine for you see where my numbers are. If they are about the same hopefully thats good and does not mean we both need trannys LOL.

and i started a thread about oss and tss over in the tuner forum

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ml#post4597649

good advice. the tss must be very close (within 5 rpms) of the oss when the trans is in 3rd with the converter locked (od off button) because 3rd gear is a 1:1 ratio. in fourth its a .70:1 ratio so it gets all messed up. and they seem to read at slightly different times, so the numbers will be off, but they should be very close to one another
