Which 6 inch lift is best??? Advice Please
I'm about to get an F-150 (2004-2008) body style. It's a 4X4. I want to get a 6 inch suspension lift and 35's. I'm looking for some input as to which lift kit I should get. I know Rough Country's 6 inch kit is the cheapest, but I've heard that their drop down brackets are only 4 inches, not 6. That seems odd to me. Anybody know anything for sure about Rough Country? ProComp seems like a pretty good affordable choice too. I would prefer to spend under $2,000 on the lift. And I should be fine with the stock gears and 5.4L V8 running 35's right? Any advice will be appreciated.
Depends on what you consider most important. Are you more interested in overall cost or quality, do you want to run your stock wheels? Stay away from any kit the requires you to stack blocks in the back, thats a big NO NO.
I would like to get a happy medium of cost and quality. I'm gonna do some off-roading, so I want it to hold up well. I plan to put it on myself to save a lot of money. I would like to get new front coilovers if I can afford it
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stay with 35's. I don't want to have to regear to get 37's. As far as rims I'm undecided. Can you use stock rims with a 6 inch lift? Or do you need to get rims with 4.5" backspacing? I have the stock 17" rims
I asked because the rancho is the only kit that allows you to run the stock wheels, but it is only a 4" but you can still run 35's with the rancho. The pro-comp (pro-crap) and the fabtech (fagtech) are considered the cheapest and the rize 6" is probably the most expensive around 3 large. Most kits are good enough for occassional off road use, go to each brands site and research their kits and see what you like versus what you can afford. If you decide on a kit that stacks blocks in the back, then upgrade it to a 1 piece block for safety reasons.
My personal favorites with the reason(s)
rancho 4" - like the design of the kit in general, allows the use of stock wheels
skyjacker 6" - similar in design to the rancho, uses replacement leaf springs in the rear or add-a-leaf/bigger block combo, your choice
rize 6" or 8" - uses a ball bearing steering rack adapter, no other kit does this, they just use drop brackets on the steering rack.
