FX4 or 2WD?

Been pondering this one for awhile. I've always really liked the FX4 package, but if I wanted to lift it I would more than likely have to go with drop down brackets instead of a true suspension lift in the front, not giving much clearance. I really love the 4x4 but most of the miles I drive are on the street. The 4x4 would be beneficial for deer hunting as well.

Option 2 is to find a nice 2WD F150 (Im thinking a Lariat model Supercrew, Black w/ Tan leather) with low miles, put 37" BAJA T/As on it, glass the front, flare the rear, long travel kit, etc.

I think with the 2WD option, the 300 HP 5.4 will have an easier time pushing the truck down the road, with the Baja T/As it would be relatively smooth on the freeway and then I could make my powerline road runs with the long travel when I want at speed. I think it would be a bit cheaper to not only but the truck w/ 2WD but also to do the lift I want would be cheaper than the FX4 (was thinking Rize 8" if I got the FX4). Another plus to the 2WD is they look nicer with the long travel kit and glass. It would be a nice luxury prerunner of sorts

Input on this? Anybody been in the same situation?

I guess they are both great at what they are designed to do, just keeping going back and forth with it

Lifting either way, just the difference between a long travel kit for a 2WD or a Rize 8" kit for the 4x4

Well Honestly I don't think it matters which one you get. If your not going through horrible conditions in the offroad area a 4x2 will do just fine. But if you think you might be going through some pretty rough terrain I would go with the 4x4.

i dont think you could go wrong either way. Both trucks would look bad ***. But if i had to pick one, i would go for the fx4 with the 8" lift.

I'd probably never buy a 4x4 unless I moved somewhere that I'd need it.

I'd vote 2wd.

I live in the Texas Hill Country and the in-laws have a 1400 acre ranch. The only time my 2wd got stuck was in the silt after a rain at Baytown dragway in Houston.

If your not driving through mud, you won't need 4x4. It costs more, is one more thing to break, and reduces gas milage.

Then again, I don't leave the caliche roads if it has been raining. There is one gravel road I take to a nice spot on the ranch I have to get a running start at or I can't make it up. The 4x4 trucks on the ranch have no problem with it.

I had an 05 FX4 and loved the truck but never used the 4x4 in Florida, I actually went through 2 IWE solenoids because I never used it...So I bought a new FX2 and I'm very happy with my choice.. It's the same as a FX4 but 2wd.

hey, I have a 05 f150 2wd with 8 1/2 in the front and 5 inches in the back on 325/65/r18 bf goodrich and 18 inch procomp 6001 series rims.

I love it, its powerful as heck and I never get stuck, plus I have a superchip in it that I found for 120 bucks on craigslist

Same here. My last two trucks were 4x4s and never used them and had problems out of both of them. Never really used it so I thought why get it, though know I often want one instead of this. But no biggie.

If you dont need 4x4 no sense in getting it, but. Do spend the money saved on a limited slip for the 2wd they are needed if going off pavement instead of open diff.

if you think you'll need 4wd then get it. it's not too much extra weight and it's always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

they make long travel kits for 4wd if im not mistaken

X2. If you live anywhere that sees snow, go 4x4. I'm kinda guessing you don't though.
