gryphon or mbrp catback?

gonna get something when the tax return comes in. gryphon or mbrp si/so catback?

got about 400 bones ish.

i was set on the gryphon but i have been reading and read that adding a gryphon to a stock truck makes it a little more lean, and im already running a drop in K&N air filter, so im worried that adding a gryphon will make it too lean.

my plan was to get a gryphon and not get custom tunes yet, just run around with the thing on level 2, then get the mbrp and a custom performance 87 tune at the same time, since all my truck has now is a dvw intake mod, and a universal magnaflow welded in the stock catback.

so what say you? get the gryphon and run canned tunes and it wont make me run too lean or just get the exhaust first, enjoy it, and then get the gryphon and custom tunes all at once.

ive got the pcm reprogrammed to stop the flare up between shifts so i dont know my hex code, so i thought id have to get the gryphon and run canned tunes so i can get my hex code first then send that to php.

is that right?

opinions?

A Gryphon on Level 2 (87 tow) shouldn't make you run lean and it is in your price range. I would ask this question on the Programmers section though to be sure. When I bought my Gryphon I plugged it in and it read my HEX code that I then sent in. An MBRP, depending on the type you choose, is outside of your price range. For instance my old one (SIDO split rear in 304SS) is listed at $850 on their website.

its lists stupid high on their website. they have 3 levels of the si/so catback, aluminum, then midgrade is t409ss, and then the nicer one t304stainless. the alum one is 290 and the one i want is 390.

to see for yourself go to the mbrp site, get the t409 one, get the part number and go to jegs.com and search it. its 390. on the site i think it says 680 or something.

i read somewhere over on another forum that gryphons will make it a little more lean

Yes, I talked to Bill at PHP yesterday and he said that they do make your truck run a bit leaner. However, he said that from the factory they make your truck run rich, so it pretty much cancels it out.

I'd say a exhaust, but better than the MBRP. Then custom tuned.

If you just have a K&N "drop-in" that replaces the factory air filter you will not run lean. The aftermarket intake systems that change the geometry/location, whatever you want to call it, around the MAF sensor are the ones that tend to cause lean issues. Sounds like you have just replaced the stock air filter. If so, you should be fine.

Hi.

I'd not normally argue with the Emperor of Exhaust, but - bang-fer-buck, it's the Gryphon, hands-down.

The Gryphon will at least properly and safely control yer A/F's.

The catback will not add any performance, nor will it require any tuning cvorrections.

The K&N drop-in does exactly bupkis, does not flow any better than a stock OEM filter at the flowrates evident in a N/A stock truck, and also does not require any tuning correction. Remember to keep a close eye on that dang MAF - keep it clean!

A tuner is the single best mod you can do as far as I'm concerned. Second is window tint and thrid is exhaust. However I would hate to do without any one of them.

correct it is just a replacement air filter with a dvw intake mod. so gryphon is where its at? and si/so catback is nothing that requires a different tune?

better than mbrp? im stuck on single in single out, what would recommend that's better than mbrp?

so all i need to do is order the 400 dollar gryphon and that comes with the pod correct?
