My wife just purchased a newer year Tahoe. After driving that, I really hate my 4 speed tranny. I already hated it, so much I took off my nice sounding custom exhaust because when it chased gears up a hill the sound drove me crazy. I'm not saying I'd prefer a Chevy truck, but this got me thinking I really would like a newer truck with 6 speed. Accelerates and shifts smooth as butter.

I guess this mainly applys to the 03-05 owners. I hear the 07 and up are a Much bigger step up. Just lay it all out there for me.

I have owned my 99 xcab xlt v6 since new. I now have 195,000 miles on it. I have had a few problems. A few codes and sensors thoughout the years. But I think that goes with owning a car for so long. I also had to have the tranny rebuilt at 190,000. When I got it she was just the perfect truck for me. But now 13 years later I sometimes need a 4x4 and bigger engine. But I just invested $2200.(paint, wheels, tires, tinted windows and grill) for a truck that I could only sell for $2500. I love this truck and plan to keep it for 4 more years. Then I plan to buy another ford but a diesel. Because at this time that's what I need now. Ford built a good product when they made my truck.

I have owned 1996 Tacoma, 2004 Tacoma, 2004 Frontier, 2007 Frontier, and two 2004 F150s.

All were/are good trucks. Knowing what I know now, I should have just bought a full sized everytime over a compact. The smaller trucks ie Frontier and Tacoma really doesn't get that much better gas mileage especially after you lift and throw on 33's like I did with my Tacomas and Frontiers.

My old 2004 Fx4 5.4 was great until it hit 105K mile range then thats when all the "common" 5.4 issues really started to become problematic. Before anyone says anything about treating it, let me tell you I am a very meticulous person and take real good care of what I own. I had the dealership do all the 3K oil changes, all the 30, 60,80, 100 mile maintenace. But all the care in the world I put in did nothing for the 5.4 motor. It literally started falling apart and was disheartening to me considering how I babied it. I'm still disappointed in the 3V 5.4.

Sold it and got a Xterra for about a year then decided I really missed having a truck. Didn't want to spend over $30K on a truck and looked at Rams, Tundras, Titans, Silverados and decided there were certain things I just didn't like about each. Wanted the newer Tundra, motor is awesome but used ones were too $$$. In the end, found a great deal on my current 2004 4.6 F150.

It is a little slower off the line than the 5.4 3V but once its at 20mph+, I don't notice a power difference. The motor also seems to idle smoother than my old truck. I wouldn't mind supercharing my motor or doing a 5.4 2V swap or getting Trick Flow heads.

103K on my 05' & had a 06 in the SAME body style, PowerTrain but in White that I totaled out :/
No regrets as far as the purchase and reliability of the truck! Its been a solid rock.

I love the looks and curves of the 04-08s. I definitely later on wanna to do a motor-swap, custom leather seats, etc. etc,

THAT being said, FORD will be the only vehicles I put foot in. EVER!

So I have to say YES I wish I had gone Chevy sooner. If you haven't had the chance to drive a Silverado with the 6.2 in it you should. that is all
Sorry Crystal (if your still on here) but I have had the mis-pleasure of driving all of my best friend's Silverados over the years as, even though he is my best bud, he is unfortunately a GM idiot and loves nothing but chebies. He had a '99 2500 4x4, an '04 1500 2wd (I think it was a 1500, not really sure, but that's how unimpressive it was, I can't remember) and his latest, an '06 3500 4x4 diesel, lifted with all the bells and whistles, and again, I was not at all impressed with any of them, ride, performance or what have you. Well, maybe that's a partial lie, as he did impress me with the diesel back in '09 when I was visiting with him down Louisiana (where he now resides), and he pulled a fully loaded 18 wheeler out from being stuck in a mud patch in front of his house, though grant it, the trucker was also gunning it too so the chevy was really just assisting in getting the truck unstuck, but the guy wasn't going anywhere without the help of my buddies chevy, so I thought that was pretty impressive...... and foolish at the same time, risking any damage to that Allison transmission, I wouldn't have done it

I do know however all the misfortune you had with your Ford and can't say as I blame you for the manufacturer switch, It's nice to know that you found something your happy with and that it's been reliable for you.... even if it is a cheby, at least it is not a Dodge, yucckk !!!!!! Seriously, glad you are happy with your truck

Got my 05 FX4, 5.4 Supercab in May of 05 . Loved the looks and feel of the truck. I tow a 25 ft travel trailer . Plenty of power and handles it like it’s not even there. But now I have kind of lost confidence in it because of the fuel injector issue. One of the injectors stuck open. This caused the engine to stale and I had to be towed to a dealership. Ford paid for the replacement of injector and replaced catalytic converter under extended warranty 07M08. But refused to pay for the tow. Dealer called after replacing injector and cat. To tell me that during test drive the 4x4 is engaging by itself, and the are looking for the reason. The truck has 34,000 miles and now I worry about getting stranded in the boonies during a trip with my trailer. I am thinking maybe replacing the other injectors before they fail ( if they do) in order to ease my stressed out mind

Not at all other than wishing it had new tires on it when I got it lol, that and it was the forest green color and not black, but it does have the gold two tone which is nice. I love it, it has 95k on it and I wont be getting another one for another 100k. If you can't get 200k out of any truck you either beat the heck out of it to much and don't give it the love it needs after or don't do the maintenance on it well enough.

Nope, no regrets here. I love them both ..... the '07 ..... and the '77. I've had Chevies in the past, Mopars too .... but now I'll probably never own amother Govt. Motors product of any kind (certainly don't intend to), likely not a Fiat (Chrysler) either. Strictly FoMoCo (have 5) from here on out save the occasional Subaru.

Over all I am pretty happy with My F150 (Super Crew Lariat 4x4) Purchased Brand New 7/05 I have close to 90,000 miles on it & not too many problems 1 Fuel injector (Warranty) 1 PCM Reflash (Warranty) Driver's Window Regulator,Repaired wiring for windows @ Driver's door & 2 Front Brake Calipers,Other Repairs were normal maintenance,If I had to replace it today with something new it would be a toss up between a New F150 with a 6.2 ( No other engine) or a F250 with the 6.2 (Not a fan of Ford Diesels)3rd choice would be a Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins all would have to be top of the line models & 4x4,The only thing I hate about My 05 is the Junk Hole Center console if you want to loose something put it in there.

Overall i'm very happy with my 04 supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4 3v engine. yes the spark plugs sucked to change but besides a dead battery this truck has never let me down. in the 6 years i've owned it. i've only had it into the shop a handful of times for warranty work and even after the warranty was up i've only done a few repairs (nothing major). I have no regrets in buying this truck. its got 97k on it now. I'll probably do the cam phasers and timing chains/guides before to long.

I regret mine at this point. I have had plenty of other year Fords and never an issue, but this 05 Screw Lariat is driving me crazy. And all because of the plugs and COP issues. Plus the fact that it can misfire over and over causing poor economy, and still never leave a code in the computer. I like everything about the truck other than the spark plug issues, and I am not quite sure why they decided to go with something that had such a potential to break the way it does. Maybe the 04 to 08 was the BETA version and I have to upgrade to F150 v.09+ to get the bugs worked out.
