Then you should know that all of the problems of the 5.4 go back to their 3 valve heads. VCT problems, spark plugs. Injector failures are also only on the 05 5.4's. The 2 valve 5.4's are just as relaible as the 2 valve 4.6's.

We should also distinguish a bit between a "few defects" and "reliability". Rarely does the cam phasers or spark plugs causes reliablity issues, it's just an annoyance if you break a spark plug while changing them the first time, not a reliablility issue. The injector failure issue isn't all that common either. The 5.4L/4.6L in 2V or 3V form is just as "reliable" as any other modern engine.

No regrets and love the truck but the mechanical issues over the past few months are starting to make me warry of holding onto it. I'm hoping it will go issue free for awhile now as within the last 10K miles I have had 1 injector fail, cat fail, COPS fail and new starter and flex plate (flywheel).

If it is going to continue to have issues I will be getting out of it and upgrading to a new truck if money allows.

I hope its gone thru its hiccup phase though as I would like to be in this truck 5+ years down the road until the purchase of a new one.

I've been very happy with my 06 F150! However I am selling it only because I drive quite a haul to get to and from work everyday. About 37 miles each way, 5 sometimes 6 days a week. So I bought a 03 Audi A4 3.0L Quattro for that the trip to and from work everyday.

I'm selling the truck still since I won't need to drive it daily I'm going to look for a 00 - 03 F250 or F350 4x4 long bed exstended cab 4x4 with the 7.3L diesel. As I would use it pretty much just for working my side jobs which are construction and landscaping and could use a longer bed and more towing/hauling ability.

Yes I do know this but what I was saying is that the 2v5.4 and 2v4.6 share the same engine components except for the block and connecting rods. The same also applies too the 3v5.4 and 3v4.6. If you wanna get technical with your 4.6 superiority, Then if the 3v4.6 and 3v5.4 were brought too market at the same time then the 4.6 would have had the same common annoyances as the 5.4 but the 3v 4.6 was introduced later after the 3v5.4 so it got the updated sparkplug design and better cam phasers. The 2v 4.6's had problems with plug blowouts so the only advantage it has over a 3v is not risking a noisey cam phaser, which like stated before isn't a reliability problem. My mustang has the 2v4.6 so I respect the motor but it's not by any means superior too the 5.4's.

Love my 06 4x4 5.4 screw. Its the truck I always wanted, so when I drove by mine at the dealership for 3 months straight and saw them drop the price, I made sure it was budgetworthy with the wife, traded my 00 dakota and got a good deal. Now I think Im about done modding it. Its right where I want it. Workworthy (headache rack with trailer hitch extension for ladders or 16' boards,monro load adjusting shocks) Tough (westin grill guard, taillight guards) Sounds good and gets a little better gas mileage with a little better accelaration (gotts mod, superchips tuner, flowmaster exhaust, k&n drop in filter, 265/70/17 general grabber ht) Looks good with the tuffcountry leveling kit. When my tires wear out i'll upgrade to 285/70/17 destination at's. The whole family fits, and is not embarassed to ride along. No problems (knock on wood) in a year and a half. Proud to be a Ford owner.

I was actually all lined up to buy a Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 double-cab longbed back in 2007. I wasn't so sure I wanted to go to a smaller truck after always owning full sizes. The dealership pissed me off when I showed up to do the deal. They had the exact truck I wanted and we worked out a solid price over the phone. I drove the 45 miles to get there and the truck was gone. Their sales manager had left for the day and took it. Not only was I pissed the truck wasn't there, but now the dealership staff was driving the thing around?? To me it was certainly no longer a brand new truck and I demanded we were going to re-negotiate the price....which didn't matter because they would not send someone to go get it or ask the guy to bring it back. Instead they tried to talk me into a shortbed version. So I walked out and stopped by my local Ford dealer on the way home and walked out of there as the owner of my current truck.

I very rarely need the size of the cab or the bed, or the towing capacity. 95% of the time, going with the Tacoma would have been fine, capability-wise. However, those several long trips the family and I have taken, with 2 kids and a baby in the back and all our stuff in the bed on 800 mile+ trips, the truck has been a lifesaver and I couldn't imagine doing it in a Tacoma. Still, there are times if I wonder if I would have been better off on a daily basis....Taco would fit in the garage, tighter parking lots that seem to be springing up all over the place these days, a bit easier to move around in Boston traffic, etc.

My main gripe is the ridiculous (to me anyways) seats. The non-powered ones anyhow. The seat bottom cusion is too low to the floor, too short to really support your legs, and too level with the floor. I made up some spacers to raise the front edge of the seat cusion up from it's frame about an inch and a quarter and that helped. Also, the pedals (again, my non-powered ones) are positioned unnaturally. The brake pedal is too high in relation to the accellerator, and is too far over to the left. If you center yourself in-line with the steering column and look down, you'll see more of the brake pedal is to the left than to the right. It's become more natural for me to use my left foot on the brake than my right. If I taken the truck on a longer test drive, these 2 issues may have made themselves known, and I may not have bought it...I would have at least decided to test drive some other trucks first. I can't stay comfortable for more than a couple of hours at a time. I would think if I had bought the power adjust pedals and power seats, I may be able to get more comfortable. As much as I love everyting else about the truck, sometimes the discomfort makes me angry enough to wish I hadn't bought it.

2006 4.6 STX 4x4 SCAB.

It's quiet and smooth, the Mrs. says it's easy to drive, and the 5.4 has run very well and makes decent power so far (36000 miles). Still like the looks. It's all good.
Mostly use it as a weekend warrior in nice weather and light plowing in winter. Tow around 5000lbs on weekends to camp and maybe 400lbs in the bed. Use a little commuter car during the week unless we get alot of snow (happens quite often). Again it's all good.
