2004 Lariat keypad question

Just got my truck this week......looked in the owners packet for the card with the code on it.

It states it is 4 numbers then an "X". I thought the keypad only had numbers and the code had to be 5 numbers?

Thoughts?

The factory owners manual for the truck says 4 #'s and an X??? Maybe they gave you a manual for a Dodge Dart or something. Read it again, 1st on the front to see if it says Ford Owners Manual and then to see (in some good light) if it says 4 #'s and an X. Something strange there. Kinda hard to find the "X" on that keypad isn't it??? This is a New Body '04, right??? 5 #'s it is! Maybe Johnny Cash built that truck on a Monday morning with a bad hangover.

It's not REAL easy to do, but if you pull the rear seat the 5 digit code is on the BSM, VSM box behind the rear seat. Do a search and you should find some instructions of how to do it the easy way.

Pretty sure I know what I am talking about here...why the hell would I rip apart the backseat when the card in my FORD owners manual clearly says Door code 1256X

It is 5 digit, and I gues they used the letter for the last digit. Never seen that before, try it and see if it works. BTW, you may want to remove the code you posted as now, anyone can get into your truck, if that is truly the code.

The above poster was telling you how to retrieve the code if that one is not correct.

doesent matter, if he changes the code, the original and the new one will unlock the truck. you cant change the original code.

try xxxx1, xxxx3, 12565, xxxx7, and xxxx9.

That is correct. What I was saying is that he may want to edit his post and remove it from this site.

Good, that was smart. Not everyone thinks of that.

not sure about this, but isn't the code with the X after the 4 digits for the key itself? don't they use only 4 numbers?

The # would be on a card the size of a credit card in the GLOVE BOX PACKET. Didn't know from the way you said it if you were looking in the manual or exactly what.

You're gonna have a hard time getting the door keyless entry to work with the factory key#. The manual only EVER addresses a FIVE (5) digit # for the keypad. I was trying to help by mentioning the KE# on the VSM behind the rear seat because quite a bit of the time the dealer will want to charge some coin to hook up the computer and pull the # from the PCM.
Guess my effort and humor and help didn't work did it? Sorry about your sore butt, hope it gets better REAL soon!

This is just me, but if I had the first 4 digits of a 5 digit code, and only 5 buttons on the side of the truck, I think I would just start putting in all 5 possible code combinations until I found the one that worked.

But that's just me.
