When my wife's old Impala had a bad cat the car couldn't get out of it's own way. It was replaced under warranty and ran perfect after that. Those cars had chronic problems with the cats for some reason.

If you ever take a look at the list of different part#'s for injectors in the '04 NB up through '07 or '08 you see quite a few different #'s, and interestingly, a pretty wide variation in some of the prices too. They may not have made all those changes because of bad injectors, but there certainly are more than 2 part #'s, and prices in those years. I really feel for the people who fall outside of what the judgement called for (only '05's) and yet had failed injectors (from the bad batches) that cost them an engine and their truck wasn't titled '05.

Yes, the back pressure from a clogged cat can cause engine damage. Ask the dealer if they can drop the pipe off the cat and punch the guts out till the cat comes in.

For the 05MY injectors (5.4) they switched to a different manufacturer. Those who don't have an 05 and had these injectors in their truck whatever MY it may be, I'm sure the dealer could tell if they were in there or not. We all know how some dealer service departments work though, through laziness or ineptitude they may not find that info out. A stand up dealer would be able to tell what is in there. Regardless these bad injectors are 05 MY injectors only, no matter what MY the truck/van is.

You might want to change your oil when you get it back too! Besides all that black smoke, the rest of that fuel that didnt get burned drained back into the oil pan.

Was changed by the dealer but thanks for the heads up

Truck went back in yesterday and new Cat was installed and its running great. I asked them about doing a fuel filter change while it was in and they wanted $75

I bought a filter on the way home and tool at a O'Reilly's for about $24 and will do the change out next week probably.
