brake pad life

How long has everyone's factory brake pads lasted? Mine are starting to squeak a little now and I'm at 25K. I have pulled some heavy loads with my truck (5000lbs+) and with no brake controller so I'm not expecting to get a lot of mileage out of my pads. Is this normal for the cheap dusty Ford brake pads or what? Also what is a good replacement? I have heard that EBC makes great pads. I know slotted and drilled rotors will help also. What are your opinions? BTW, I do a lot more city driving than highway so I know that makes a difference too, maybe 80% city to 20% highway. Thanks in advance.

Slotted are ok, but not really necessary. Drilled is for high heat, such as racing and is hard on pads. Just get a quality pad such as Wagner ThermoQuiet or CarQuest Blues. There are others. I put 80,000 on my first set of Wagner TQs and had pad left when I took them off. Could have gone another 20,000. They are dustless and silent.

Most people have been using this guy on eBay. Since he was in Chicago and the price for 4 rotors/pad setup was $188 shipped, I figured I'd give him a try. I put them on about a month ago and am very pleased.

Earlier when I changed just the pads, I went with Carquest Blues - as most people here recommended.

I made it to 45k miles on the factory brakes, upgraded to EBC pads and rotors , had them for about 5k miles now and have nothing but good things to say about them. Highly recommend EBC even though they are a pricier option.

I swapped out my stock pads at 80K and they still had quite a bit of meat on them. Probably would have been safe till about 100K.

I'm @ 60K and the original pads still have a ways to go. I probably won't change 'em out until 75K or so at the earliest. Defenitely be going with a different pad for lower brake dust, though.

I just changed mine, my fronts went metal to metal at 50k. Had to replace pads and rotors. I just did my rear pads yesterday, at 57k, and they had about 25% left, but were making noise. I just went with the mid level Napa pads. I don't need nothing special, my truck doesn't get driven much anymore.

Brake pad life is dependent on the habits of the driver and the type roads the driving is on. My cousin keeps his company trucks to a little over 200,000 miles in 3 years and he never has to service the brakes. Other people wear them out in 20,000 miles

I have a 2008 F150 XL 4.6. 67xxx miles and have an apointment for rotor turn and pads for the front next week. I found out that my year has a center bearing in the hub. Cant be turned like normal inner and outer bearing hubs. Yippee! This is the first real maintance need on the truck thus far.

The 4x2 has a rotor with the built in bearing and has to be turned on the truck. I just changed pads without truning them.
