anyone wanna make me behind the grill light setup?

i contacted a member here about making me the mount for lights behind the grille on my truck. i can install the mounts and paint the brackets and all, but i have no tools to bend or cut that kind of metal. he was very willing to do this for me, but his truck was an 04-05 and mine is an 07. my dad has an 05 stx, and after further review, i then discovered that the way the bumper mounts to the truck in the 04-05 trucks is different than my truck.

so id prefer to have someone who has made one and has one on their truck, but it has to be an 06-08.

all i need is for someone to make and send me the bars, ill paint them, and buy the lights, and mount them and wire them up of course. ill pay for materials, and pay you for your labor. you can go get an estimate on parts, or quote me, and ill paypal you for the parts first, and then labor later, or both before you start. either way.

im in school right now and back and forth between there and school, installing the bars, painting them, mounting lights, wiring them, ect is going to be work enough, and i wouldnt mind paying someone to make these bars for me.

im thinking id like to do it with just two, i have a lariat, and the honeycomb grille factory, one light on either side of the ford emblem. ive seen some where they have an L bracket all the way across, and id rather have the kind like this

https://www.f150online.com/forums/3962413-post6.html

where they have a bar that goes horizontal, supported from the bottom two bars, and mounted also where the temp sensor is. id rather the bar be thicker too like the 2 inch model.

i believe watson 91 has the same design of bar im looking for but his truck is an 04-05.

this way looks good but i think they are too low.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/3967604-post22.html

id like for them to be about middle of the ways in the grille, and centered between the ford emblem and the edge of the grille.

the crazy redneck's are mounted about where i want them, just a little lower and outboard more.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...zyredneck.html

so if anyone would like to make some extra cash shoot me a pm, or respond to this thread. it would also be helpful to post pics of your mount if you have the time.

also id probably run hella 500ff's or some sort of 6 inch light. if i could fit 700ffs that would be a bonus. again though post what you have and what you fit behind there and talk to me.
thanks guys, merry Christmas to all.

Man, if I knew somebody was going to want it, I would have saved the bracket I built for my 2005. (See my signature line.) I re-used parts of it two weeks ago to build a new setup for my 2010. (Post coming one of these days.) Sorry about that chief.

Yes its the same 04-08 the lights are 6 inch piaa's, a hack saw and a drill is all you need, for how I did mine.

Heres another picture, from my buddies truck:

so bucky you just got that from lowes? how thick is that metal L bracket. those are 6 inch lights? you think theres room for 7 inchers? do you have high and low beam ones or just 130 watt ? id really like for them to be about an inch lower, it would be interesting to mess around and try to find a way to mount them lower while still using that same design.

Couldn't tell ya how think, I just found it in the shop. I did them out of the flat cold roll like the first link you posted but bounced to much going down the road for me. So I went back to the drawing board.

Yes the lights I have are the 6 inch, there the PIAA 540 series Plasma Ion Fog. I have them wired to a three way switch on-off-auto which turn off and on with the brights.

so what kinda lights is everyone running? bucky you think you could fit 7 inch lights behind there? is it worth it to go to 135 watt lights or are 55 watt hellas going to be bright enough? im simply trying to reach farther than the stock high beams will. if i can fit 700ffs should i do that?

has anyone ran black magic 500's? are they bright? i would think they wouldnt be since they are black.

Between the 500 and the 700. They use the same bulb, 700's only offered in pencil beam pattern. No fog pattern. Other than that, that's the only difference the 700 is just a bigger housing so is "alittle" better for long range. As for the 700's fitting couldn't tell ya. Use the search theres been alot of threads on lights behind the grill.

i cant find that many, its hard to narrow down. your lights are fog pattern lights, do they stretch out far, or were you trying to fill in space close to the truck? id like to get 130 watt lights but they seem to be mostly fog patterns.

Bucky919 I like how you did your light mount. Keeping it simple. I'm sure that there would be less vibration with less parts, and not having to make identical bent brackets is a plus. I would think fab time would be considerably less with your set up. J.B.

I think (actually I know) you guys are going to want to stay away from "fog" beam lights in this situation. A "fog" pattern is generally a 135 degree wide, very flat pattern designed to illuminate a short distance out in front of the truck and well out to the sides. To do this, the lens must be unobstructed from the sides. As you might guess, whilst hidden behind the grill, this isn't going to happen.

A "driving" beam on the other hand is designed to reach out a long distance straight ahead and not very far off center. (A "pencil" beam is an extreme version of this.) This type of beam isn't hindered much by the distance behind the grill or the grill itself. And from personal experience with a set of Hella 550s with 130 watt bulbs behind my grill of my former 2005, I can assure you the effect is more than adequate.

so if i get a set of hella 500's or 500ff's i can put 130 watt bulbs in them? they come with 55 watt bulbs in it. are 500ffs the same bulb as the 500's (h3 i think) i think on summit it said they had a different bulb. is that what youd recomend for this application, is a 500 with a 130 watt bulb. what brand of bulb is that?

I have the same mounting style as bucky. however, i am running hella 500's with HID's in them. They are ridiculously bright. i just wired it up to a switch in the cab. This mounting style has no "play", its quite sturdy actually.
