anyone got the black kobalt low profile tool box at lowes

this christmas ill be either getting a black low profile tool box, or paying about half of a decent 400-500 dollar bed cover.

my family and my friends and i use my truck to go on long trips because its the biggest thing my family or friends have, but once you put 4, 5 or 6 people inside the truck, luggage has to go in the back. i just want a place to keep clothes, other stuff dry. a toolbox would work great, because then i can mount my cb to it, and use it for dry storage.

at truckin thunder, they told me their nice velcroed down cover would still leak a little in the corners.

i also like being able to lock the toolbox, where as a buck knife would take care of a vynyl cover. and im not paying for a big huge color matched are cover.

the toolbox im leaning towards is the kobalt one at lowes. its black, low profile and 288. ive seen people on here before with them, how are they holding up, the only review on lowes.com is that its terrible, the paint chips, and all that other stuff.

any ideas?

Keep in mind the lower priced boxes will not be 100% water proof. IIRC the Lowes tool boxes are just re-badged Deezee truck boxes. Tractor supply does the same thing. I had one of them on my truck and some water would get in side on occasion.

Weather Guard boxes are the only boxes I've used that are 100% waterproof, but they're pretty pricey ($500+)

How about a folding Tonneau? I have an Extang Trifecta that has never leaked (even when spraying the hose directly on the seams), and it folds up in just a few seconds, and completely removes in a minute or two. Toolboxes are great, but would be tough for luggage I think.

That's your pretty blue 07 4X4?

The Undercover hard cover would look great on there, and it's not a paint cover. Very light, molded of ABS Composite with reinforcements molded in underneath, strong enough for several grown men to stand on, locks in place, weighs maybe 55 pounds and is easily removed and hung on a wall ...
... and being pebble grained walking on it does not scratch it. When it's locked, the tailgate is captured and secure as well.

Would look great on your truck.

Love mine.

I also have a big lockable carrier I bought at Walmart is made from recycled material and it's huge inside and totally weather proof once shut and has a place to put a lock too. It was $50-60 I think.

I think the only lids that are truly waterproof are those that conform over the outer lip of the entire bed such as the SnugTop covers: http://www.snugtop.com/products/ford_tonneau_covers.php

Or those by Leer: http://www.leer.com/Truck-Tonneaus

In any event, those things are not cheap as they are a painted, but they sure are purty. I am more a fan of the hard, folding or sliding tonno's in case I'm hauling something taller than my bed. When I go on trips and its wet out, some water gets into the bed of my truck but my stuff is always packed in a bag/suitcase or wateever and its never been a problem for me.

I have the kobalt low profile box on my truck. Started off chrome on my old truck but painted it black for my new one. Its pretty close to water proof and does its job, but you get what you pay for. It works for me, only paid 99 bucks

Do you have something to keep it from sliding around the bed?
