the ones i posted are designed to be painted, which will eliminate the extra prep work, and guarantee a surface ready to be painted.
if you intend on having a body shop doing it, some will tell you no way, unless its a part designed to be painted.
It really is up to you. I figured I'd make finding paintable parts easier, incase that is the route you, or others plan to take.

in some cases. in other cases, they'll charge you outrageously to prep the parts, which may result in a cost similar to what you'd pay to buy the paintable parts. You could prep them yourself and tell them their paintable, but that depends on how good of a job you do. Also, if you don't intend on needing to be able to use your truck for a few days, painting the current parts is no big deal, but if your truck is a daily driver, buying a 2nd set of parts is a good idea.

Don't bother buying the smooth mirror caps, they won't fit anyway. All you need is a long thin flat screwdriver and a T-15 torx bit.
1. Rotate mirror down and in to get screwdriver behind mirror glass.
2. Pry clips loose on backside of mirror glass and set aside (unplug heat wires if needed)
3. Remove the four torx head screws inside mirror housing.
4. Pull front half of housing forward and out to separate.
5. Sand, paint, clear, and reinstall
your housing should look like this after removal
The front half of housings before reinstall
