Add a leaf

Ok fellas which AAL are the best?
I have a set of auto springs on the truck right now and both of them are broke and I am easy on this truck. I do tow a travel trailer but it is only about 6000lbs loaded. I have contemplated air bags but they are a little out of the price range right now, just want to get the truck fixed right now before the weather gets bad.

I have installed many different brands over the years, Rancho-SkyJacker-ProComp. They are all pretty much the same. The only suggestion that I have is to go with a long AAL vs the short version. The long AAL ride much better than the shorts.

I was thinking of putting AALs in my 04, but then I decided to go with airbags and a on-board compressor system. I am VERY glad I did!! Granted I have around $600 into the system, but for me it was well worth it.

The AAL from Autosprings are the long ones that are on my truck now that are broke. I was just curious what everyone that was the best. Out of the Rancho, Skyjacker, Pro-comp which are long and which are short.

PHS79 how much lift does your truck get out of running the bags at thier normal 10 to 20 psi like is recommended.

Did you check with auto-spring to see about a warranty?

I called them today and was told that the main guy wasn't there and wouldn't be back till Friday. I am still going to call him back and see what he says, but I am probably going to go with a different brand. I really don't wan't a repeat of what I have now. But I am curious who thier suppliers are for thier leafs are.

I'm running Pro Comps. They seem to be holding up.

I've had a long Procomp AAL on for about 10k miles and no problems. Hauled 2500-3000 lbs in the bed a few times, and towed about 7k twice. No complaints.

What broke on your AAL? Did the leaf crack?

Both leafs broke into two pieces. I do tow with the truck quite often but I dought that I have ever been over the load capacity even without the AAL. I am trying to decide between a new set of AAL or a set of bags now.

I put the Firestone Ride Rites on mine a couple of years ago and am very pleased. You don't have to inflate them to any special pressure, it is dependent on load being hauled or comfort level. I didn't get the inflation package, just ran the lines out through the plastic panels on the rear bumper near the lights that illuminate the license plate. I bought one of those little cheap air compressors from PEP BOYS and keep it in the DU-HA under the rear seat. I need to add a little air every 4-6 weeks is all. I run a LEER cap and 20 psi is dead level while 25-30 gives me the slightest bit of rake as measured at the body moulding crease along the lower aspect of the door. hope this helps.

X2

Got the long Skyjackers on mine and I tow a pretty heavy boat in the summer and have had no issues. Anything heavier or bigger I would go with the system like PHS79 has but in my case it would have been overkill.

Here are a couple pics of what the airbags are capable of. I have had them for over 3 years and as you can see in the pics I am not easy of on them. Like you I also tow a 5000 lb camper on the weekends, but usually I am also carrying 1 or 2 ATV's in the bed as well.

There is 1000lbs of patio blocks in the bed of the truck and in the front of the trailer there is roughly 3 yds of mulch and also our little BX2230 tractor, I am guessing somewhere around 1500lbs of tongue weight.

In the first pic there is no air in the bags, the second there is 65 psi. Also the 3rd pic there is around 6000lbs of dirt, but only 40 psi in the bags.

I went ahead and ordered a set of Pro Comps to day to get me rolling again without breaking the bank. I just replaced my old travel trailer that got wiped out by a tornado and cash is a little tight right now. Then my wife had to bring her Jeep home tonight with the radiator leaking on it, oh the joys life it never seems to give me a break. HA HA
