Dealer tries to pull a fast one!

I have an 08 f150, 52k miles, never had a phaser noise until recently.
take it to the dealership, they say its normal... I ask them to replicate it with a new truck that has a 5.4 3 valve in it. they say sure...
Needless to say, they couldnt replicate it.

so they print me this and say see, its normal"

and for a second im like hmm, i guess this thwak thwak thwak that i can hear form inside the cab with the windows up is normal all the sudd.... wait wait wait...

THEY WHITED OUT THE YEAR on the broadcast message...

nice try a**wholes.

that is for the 2009-2010 f150's ,which im assuming may have a different phaser that is probably noisy(er?) then the 04-08 truck...

what do you all think?

Last year I went to the dealer and said I have a ticking noise and has gotten louder since I have owned it. They said its normal. I argue and argue and still nothing. I live with it for a year, it didnt get louder or anything, then went to a dealer in a different town and they said both side phasers are the culprit of the ticking. They fixed them under my powertrain warranty. I say try a new dealer for a second opinion and do the same thing if they say its normal.

Just because a cam phaser makes noise doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. They all make noise.

If you really want to know, click the flat rate tech link in my sig, then click episode 22. You will be educated on the VCT system.

Yup, completely agree. I would consider it abnormal if it didn't make noise it's just the way the VCT is. Even if it makes more noise then normal it doesn't mean the VCT isn't working.

A ticking that's always there hot or cold would be the injectors. Bad phasers are a dull double knock at idle only after the engine fully warms up. VCT doesn't work when the engine is cold.

Stealth. before i went to the dealership i watched that exact video. in fact, that video clip wherin they couple normal phaser noise to abnormal and back to normal is what brought me in to the dealership.

This close to my warranty expiring, and being a struggling college grad, if these things are on their way out the door, im getting them changed.

it only makes the noise after at least 20 mins of driving, when the oil temp is hot enough for the lockout pin to disengage...
and it is louuuudddd. if i hold rpm at 800-825 according to the display center diagnostic mode, the clatter is audible within the cab with doors closed and windows up. open the hood and put a window down and you'd swear i have a 6.0 psd in there!

can anyone who had theirs changed under warranty chime in here? or anyone with an 08 truck? my truck was built 11-19-07

Apparently you dont know what its like to look for a job in a ****ty economy where every employer wants you to have 2+ years of experience. Its not as easy as you think.

Man, don't get discouraged. I've been out of college for about 15 years, but I remember what it was like getting out of school. I was little more than a glorified technician for the first 7 years. I was used and abused, and since I had a degree, my employers never felt a need to pay me overtime. As a degree'd engineer, I was invariably the lowest paid man on the job. I got my break in 2002 when I found a company that needed exactly what I had and I was in the right place at the right time.

For me, I got my first job out of school by paying attention in the interviews and reading between the lines about why I wasn't being hired. After the 4th time being asked "Do you have a 40-hr HAZWOPER?", I figured it out and paid $1000 (in 1995) for the damn training. I had a job 2 weeks later.

This specific example probably won't won't work for you, but figure out what flunkies in your chosen field have, and set yourself up for an entry level position. A flunkie with zero experience and a college degree and whatever certifications are needed to start working is a lot more employable than someone without a college degree.

As a recent graduate, you'll be expected to take a lot more abuse than someone with experience. Contract work, willingness for extended travel, etc are all discriminators between yourself and the reams of resumes that most hiring managers receive.

"Do you have a 40-hr HAZWOPER?"

I know this is derailing this thread but before it gets back on track... What the heck is a "HAZWOPER" ???? (you're probably the ONLY guy who has one!)

I tried the link to the video and although it brings up the website I can't seem to bring up any videos at all or any articles for that fact.
Maybe a website issue !

not trying to derail my post any further, but "struggling college grad" in my case means honors biology graduate in limbo between undergrad and med school. I busted my *** in my undergrad and will have no problem scoring a job once through medical school. However, staying at school 6 days a week studying till 3am doesnt pay. yet. but it will.

So no, i didnt go into the wrong field, but the dividend doesnt pay off until after med school. and then I wont be struggling.

really, why do people on forums decide to ignore the concern of the OP and chime in their conceted opinion on something totally irrelevent to the subject at hand?

But on another note, if you want the complete story please jump to the other version of this thread with the same title. this one is actually a repost...

my most critical question here really refers to the b.s. whited out broadcast message that i posted... if it doesnt open in your broswer just right click it and open in new tab / window. i would love ot hear opinions on that!
