So, tried contacting both a local dealer and Tasca, and neither had the part numbers readily available for the door harnesses... They said they can look it up, but they can't guarentee anything...

Here is my response from the ford dealer...

"Ford does not provide me with a parts list necessary to change a non power doors to a power door. Even if I were to guess what door wire harness to get you, would have to change the main body wiring harness just so the door wire harness could plug into it. And, there still the chance it would not work right because you might need to change over the main fuse box and reprogram control modules or even replace them."

So, this brings me back to my initial plan, doing the Electric-life kit or another aftermarket kit and wiring it to the factory switches. So, I know there have been a few recommendations in other threads... which kit is going to be the closest to stock performance?

I find it surprising that they don't have those part numbers readily available. Think of it this way, when people wreck their trucks where do they go to get replacement parts? Ford parts, duh! So, why wouldn't they have it readily available.

I've been doing some snooping around my truck, and I've found wiring harnesses that go every which way but are capped. Namely, under my bench seat to which I assume would be for the power and heated seats. So, I wonder if it wouldn't be worth a trip to a pick-n-pull to look at a F150 XLT's door to see what the difference is between that and our trucks.

I would go with the Electric-Life kit, I have had mine over 2 years, and no problems at all. They are quiet and just as fast as stock. Plus I just tapped into my "ignition on" wire which is right under your dash on the drivers side. There really is no need to tap into your fuse box, if your just putting in power windows and locks. Now if your putting in those and everything power such as seats, mirrors, overhead console, etc. then I would tap into the fuse box. With grabbing power from the "ignition on" wire it makes the installation alot easier. Doesn't hurt a thing either.

Just windows, locks, mirrors, keyless, and eventually a remote start. I will probably, just for the sake of not taking short cuts, wire to the fuse box. Thanks for the tip!

I guess, going this route gives me two challenges: wiring to factory switches rather than aftermarket and wiring up the mirrors manually. Any suggestions?

Cant help ya on the mirrors, but as far as the switches, they all are going to work the same way. Worst thing that would happen is you might have to change the connectors, but that shouldn't be too much trouble. The Electric-Life connectors may work fine with the factory switches, I dunno. Keep me informed, I would like to know myself incase I ever want to put factory door panels in.

My comments:

The line about "Ford does not provide me with a parts list necessary to change a non power doors to a power door" is the answer I would expect from a dealer and it's generally correct. To do a perfect "factory" swap, you would have to change out the body and under-dash harnesses and fusebox. XLs are unlikely to have the connectors and wires in those harnesses and the fusebox will be missing contacts. That's how my 2007 XL was. As for module reprogramming, that's also correct if you want to go 100% factory. Also, you would have to change or reprogram the instrument cluster since the IC runs the 10 minute accessory delay on the fully loaded models. The workaround is that you use the A1 kit for locks, which means you don't need any stock modules to do the lock/unlock on the doors. And yes, you won't have a factory 10 minute delay after you shut the key off to run the power windows.

Regarding the door harnesses, if you want to use factory door panels & switches, then I would still suggest getting them. If you don't, you will still have to locate and buy the socket pigtails to be able to wire into the switches. You might be able to get away with spade connectors for the big window switch contacts, but I didn't see a easier way of dealing with the smaller switches like the mirror switch. Using the factory harness, even when you have to hack off the body harness connector, still saves you the touble of having to contruct all the wiring inside of the door. Also note: When you go the factory harness route, the wire colors match what's in the Ford electrical diagram.

On the A1 window regulators, mine seem to work no different that that factory ones I've used. If you fo the Ford route, they plug right into the door harness. If you go the A1 way, they come with a 2-wire pigtail that you wire into the harness after cutting the Ford connector off.

I'm wondering if I brought in my switches and mirrors to the other dealer in town, they could at least get me the wire harnesses with the proprietary connector attached... That way, I would not have to manually wire my switches, but rather connect the factory wiring to the after market system. However, does anyone know the parts numbers off hand? Or should I just hope that the other dealer would be able to help me? I tried the 3 major junk yards in the area, and none of them have any 04-08 F150s (with doors attached at least).

Sorry, I'm not wild about taking my door panels off to get the part numbers from the harnesses. But, if you call Domenic at Tasca and reference the two harnesses on his order number #24350975, that should get you there. Don't waste your time with anybody else at Tasca but Dom. The two were about $100. PM me if needed.

Junkyards tend to want sell doors complete with panels and harnesses, so I wouldn't spend a lot of time on that.

Thanks for the help! I am still going to talk to the parts guy at this other dealer. He was the guy that helped me get the correct paintable upper bumper for my truck. I would have gone to them first, except that they are now further from me than the first dealer i emailed since I moved. I did send Tasca an email, but I might give them a call on my lunch break one of the next two days.

I am just about ready to order the E-L window kit but I am not sure about the door lock kit. I want a kit that is pretty close to stock in performance but also in behavior. Some of these kits are set up to unlock both doors when one is unlocked, and that is not what I want. I'm not sure, but maybe that can be prevented when I am wiring them up.

In some exciting news, my door panels arrived. Well, I should say one of them did. I got one correctly sized one, and one from a super cab (2 inches longer than my door panels). I have since ordered another, correctly sized (had them verify) door panel. Apparently when an ebay listing says "Regular cab" it isn't necessarily true.

So, looks like a weekend or two from now, I should be able to post a parts list and some pictures / details about the install. Need to order the window, lock, and keyless kit. Also waiting on my switches and trim panels to arrive.

what a ****ing joke... I sent an email to Hawk Ford (the dealer in Oak Lawn, IL that I bought my truck from) basically explaining what I am looking to do, asking if they could get me the door harnesses. The guy's response was 'Ford does not produce such kits'. That was the entire response. No effort made to help. I am still waiting to hear back from the 2 other dealers and Tasca. Man, this is really getting to be a PITA... I can tell you that I won't be buying my next truck at Hawk though.

Seriously, if anyone is bored and wants to pop off their door panel and retrieve the part numbers, I would be extremely grateful!

Good score on the switch trim panels. Very hard to find the regular cag ones used. As I'm sure you know by now, most reg. cab were delivered with zero power options. I ended up having to spring for new ones.
