another successful plug change thread

First off this is my first post I have been lurking for a couple months now absorbing all the great info.

Now having said that thanks to all that great info I changed all my plugs this afternoon with none broken and I didn't even have to PB blast them to get them out. In fact one I was able to get out without even putting my ratchet on it. Side note I changed them because I bought the truck used with 68,xxx miles and have been smelling gas in the cab with a/c on but not on re circulate also I have been averaging 12.9 MPG and am pretty sure the truck can do better than that.
Ok so new plugs in and all buttoned up I start the truck and it sure seems to be running quite rough(worse than normal) There also seems to be a "hole" (slight miss) at around 1000 rpm even almost sounds like its wanting to back fire out of the tail pipe. I have double checked all my electrical connections and am pretty certain all the COP's are seated good. I also unplugged my battery to reset the computer cause I unplugged it and moved it out of the way to get to the back two plugs on that side.

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated

You need to check the fuel injectors to see if they are leaking into the cylinder, immediately! This is a known problem and they are still under warranty. Just one bad one can hydrolock your engine and destroy it. Do a search on Injectors for a lot of info.

I knew there was a problem on the 05's I have read up on that too, but it seems like if it were an injector I would have had this problem before the new plugs right?

Is there a way for me to check them on my own at the house without special equipment?
Also on the injector deal I should be able to call a stealership and have them run my vin to see if it has been in for the injector deal?

You can pull the injectors and place a cloth beneath them to see if when you turn the key on, any of them leak. May not be your problem, but i would certainly eliminate it. It has happened an some not on the list, so I would not count on that as being meaningful. If you need more specific How To info, I would suggest PMing jbrew.

If you were smelling gas, get it in NOW to have the injectors checked!

Congrats on the plug change. As far as the injectors go FORD has them coverd for 11 years or 120K whichever comes first. Just go to the dealer and tell them you want the injectors fixed under the Customer Satisfaction Program 07M08.

UPDATE I went out this morning and just for shoots and giggles I decided to clean up the old plugs and put them back in(being as the truck was running fine before minus the fuel smell). Well after old plugs are in truck runs fine, no miss, and no fuel smell. Upon pulling the new plugs just installed yesterday I found the one that wasn't firing, rear plug passenger side. Now the question is was it the plug that was bad (I used Autolite HT15's) or was it the fact that I got a little over zealous with anti-seize and got some on the electrode and just didn't notice yesterday when I put it in.

Basically long story short old plugs are in and truck is fine, now do I want to clean the autolites and put them back in or just run the old mastercrafts, which aren't really in that bad of shape, in fact two of them are newer than the others. or do I want to get new mastercrafts and have a new set of 8 good plugs.

Thanks for the suggestions so far and any future comments.

These trucks just seem happiest with Motorcrafts, but antisieze on the electrode is a no-no. If it was there, that was your problem.

Get a new set of Motorcraft SP507/PZT14F. Those are the revised heat range plugs.

Yea thats what I figgured, I was pretty pissed at myself for doning it when I pulled it out and saw that. And it figgures it was the hardest plug to get to.
