If it's made by Wix, that's something new. They've been made by Purolator for many years.
A Motorcraft is one of the best conventional filters made, but if you are using synthetic oil with extended drain intervals stick with the M-1. If you are changing the M-1 oil every 5k, you are wasting money - use the Motorcraft semi-synthetic oil and filter. I use Mobil 1 EP and a M-1 filter in mine, but I'm running my oil to 10k.

I use Motorcraft 5w 20 synthetic and Motorcraft filter. There was a thread on here awhile ago stating how the new Motorcraft filter is smaller than the previous one. Nothing changed internally, just the size. Maybe they did this because of the tight squeeze to get the filter off, or to save a little coin. Who knows.
Did mine on Sunday Pennzoil 5w20, but I used a Wix product for the filter..the infamous NAPA GOLD!
I guess i am gonna run with the M1 filter and 5w20 mobil oil. I agree its the biggest pain getting that filter off.....haven't had any issues with the filter or oil so if it ain't broke i guess don't fix it. i got 126k on it so for the last 26k thats what i have been using
The K&N is an excellent filter. It's just not cost-effective unless you are using synthetic oil and extended drain intervals. The only regret should be you could have bought a 6 pack of beer with the savings!
You should be regretting Penzoil more than the K&N filter.
