What R U doing 4 GOOD MPG?

I was wondering if anyone was noticing a big diffrence with the things they have done to get better MPG! What was it, how much did it cost and was it worth it?

Fail!

Mostly rural hwy driving. 45mph stop. 50mph stop. 55mph stop. 45mph stop.

12mpg no matter how I drive it. Tuned or un-tuned.

In a nutshell, modifications as a general rule are not going to save you any money. The ROI (return on investment) is going to take too long to pay out. Focus more on your energy bill at home.

Reduce your travel that is the best way to reduce your fuel bill, but it does nothing for your MPG.

The biggest increase I got from a mod was like 1 MPG, and that was from a 87 custom performance tune. I get about 17.5 MPG's during the summer, and 15-16 during the winter. If you drive a big 4WD truck with massive wheels and tires, mileage should be the least of your worries.

Checking my tire pressure constantly, making sure my K&N filter is always clean. Ensuring my oil is always kept fresh, watching my heavy foot on the hills. Having women drive. For some reason i'll usually get better mileage when I do that.

When I first got my truck, I could get 400 miles per tank. I installed a flowmaster super 44 and dumped it in front of the rear axle, put in a "Gotts" cold air intake, and put a K&N drop-in filter in..... After those I have been getting over 425, and even 455 miles on one tank... I have made sure I am not on the gas a lot because of the exhaust, when i first got it, I liked the roar..... but the upgrades have definitely helped out my MPG's.... around 17-18 mixed highway and city....

The right foot is the big issue. Especially with pipes!

E-fans helped some, about 1 to 2 MPG
CAI helped very little, but looks so nice. Gotts Mod would have been cheaper and (probably) better performing.
Exhaust work did improve the mileage a little, but cost effectiveness is marginal, at best. But the sound of a good exhaust makes me .
Lowering actually DID help as much or more than E-fans, the lower frontal area seemed to help aerodynamics and fuel mileage.
Tonneau cover seemed to help, not as much as manufacturers claim, but did help. Also keeps cargo in bed secure.
Removed any extra weight (spare tire), no big difference.
Edge Evo on tow tune (#2) helped some, not a whole lot.
Monitoring IMPG and manifold vacuum helped greatly.
Accelerating like I had a raw egg under my shoe helped somewhat.

The biggest thing to help my fuel mileage was to review the Smith System of driving, the same system that over the road truck drivers use. Just by using this system, I improved my fuel mileage about 3 MPG. I went from about 14 MPG in city driving to anywhere from 17 to 18 in the city, and can get anywhere from 19 to 22 MPG highway, depending on speed, wind, and terrain.

x2 my girlfriend can always make my truck get better mpg. all about the foot. and with an exhaust for me thats a hard thing to do but getting around 16-17.5 mixed highway-city good enough for me
