SD, a couple other styles, I like. even stock is fine by me. those will be one of the first things to be changed. won't be working on that for a while though, can't really afford it. what rust she does have will be a large priority too. I'm going to college in sept, a fairly hefty commute so keeping the blue truck in gas is something I gotta keep my eye on for the wallet.

but a few flaws, what odds. fixable. I love this truck.

 

Just got a few packages in from rockauto. Actually, placed the order yesterday around 3, and it's here already! Ground shipping, they just have a warehouse close by.

Moog problem solver lower ball joints, inner and outer tierods, new coilovers (went with the 2wd version and will add 1" spacer and also lower the rear 1/2") and 6 sp-504 plugs.

I've already upgraded the upper ball joints and sway bar links to Moog in the past.

After all is said and done, my truck should sit about 1/2" to an 1" lower in the front and 1/2" lower in the rear. It's just been looking too tall to me lately. Will obviously post pics next week after I'm done.

 

I agree -- losing those "boy cruiser" tail lights will really improve the appearance of that truck......

You should ask the guy you bought it from if he kept the stock lights -- he might still have them laying around in his garage!

 

Purchased a new all Polished and Stainless Steel Magnaflow exhaust to replace my 9 yr old Magnaflow that had aluminized tailpipes that began to rust and I hated the 3" tips to boot.

And finally gave her a wash- used PB SSS and capful of OPT No Rinse for the wash, PB QD+ while drying w/Cobra towels, Griots wheel cleaner and DP tire gel over 6 moths ago

 

tg150 -- so you have collector plates on your Mustang already?

I was thinking about getting them when I plate my '87 LTD Crown Victoria down here in Texas, but the plates they provide are so "gay looking" that I will probably just register it as an everyday vehicle. The one advantage to the collector plates here in Texas is that you don't need to pass the emissions standards, which I don't think will really be an issue with my LTD.....

 

Yes sir, here in NJ you can apply for QQ plates when the vehicle turns 25, mine is now 27. I got them last year and personalized.. I'd did it mostly so I wouldn't have to take it to DMV or a garage for its emission test every two years, not that it wouldn't pass, just because it was Soo inconvenient waiting on line or paying a garage $65. I did have to find a stock picture of it from when I first purchased it in 1988 for the application which wasn't easy (car has to be stock). I had already modified it, wheels, tires, suspension, exhaust practically everything right after I purchased it . I had three months wait after I ordered it to stock pile parts for it

Can't believe I've owned it 27 years already.. Wow, time flys.

 

Here is a cpl recent pic of her, just finished a complete detail, interior, exterior and engine. Paint is all original except for the Saleen wing, hood and louvers. Both original hood and wing is boxed up and stored.

 

I love that era of Mustang -- particularly the notchback cars!

Unfortunately, I have never found one that has ever met my requirements for condition and mileage -- and I am constantly looking at cars on the internet! It is extremely difficult to find those Mustangs with low miles and/or examples that haven't already been heavily modified. I think the only way to get that would have been to have bought one new for yourself back in the day!

I'll be curious to see if the S197 cars will end-up in the same boat in another 20 years or so -- difficult to find in pristine, low-mileage and unmolested condition.....???

Changed the plugs today. I'd done the 4.6 plug change before, and I had a much easier time. The passenger side of the 4.2 is hard to access. My arms are all bruised up from banging them against stuff and my legs are sore from the position I was in. 98k miles and this is the trucks second plug change. First was at 48k due to a misfire. That was performed by the dealer though.

Idle seems smoother, normal driving is the same. Didn't have any misfires before, I just did it as maintenance.

Correct gap is 0.54 and all the old plugs were at 0.60. Not too far off.
