Dang dude, that really sucks. Sounds like the way my luck runs sometimes. Have you had any certain warning or did it go without warning at all.

I think he means a dealer found a used '04 elsewhere and they "ordered" it for him. At least that's what I get from it.

yes he is a special order used car broker and is finding me a 2004 white fx4 crewcab. The first sgin was the trans fault came up on the info center. then i started hearing noises. then the warning whent off and all it does now is slips then catches from 0-5 mph and shifts a little hard at random times. note the info center has not said anything sense. alos no DTCs were detected on the truck. might i add the tranny was rebulit about 23000 miles ago too. I did wash the truck very hardcore underneath and directly sprayed the tranny with a power washer so i hope thats the problem. its going to the shop tomorrow. If someone has a possible solution im all open ears. please i need this to be fixed before trade in

oh gotcha. that's really bad timing. i think most trans shops have warranties. usually they're longer than 30k if i remember right. spraying off underneath wouldn't cause any damage i assume.

So wait...the tranny in YOUR 2004 XLT went out? Sorry for the confusion, but you're trading an '04 XLT for an '04 FX4?

If this is the case and you need it for a trade, then I'd be sure the trade value of your old truck is increased as the new tranny you probably need to buy will have a warranty. If you go with a Ford tranny, then it will have a 100,000mi/3yr warranty and cost close to 3k. Best to come clean with the broker and see if you can get some, if not all of that 3k covered in your trade.

Uhhh....

Joe Blow: "Hi, this truck looks nice. Tell me about it."

Dealer: "Well, it has a brand new transmission, last one crapped out."

Joe Blow: "Hot dang! I'll give you 3k more for it than its worth! DEAL!"

If the tranny on your old truck went out, I would follow stove's advice, if the tranny on your new truck went out, flame the dealer.

Who is your "broker"? I know Car Max will do special order requests through their network. A coworker of mine got an '08 XLT Supercab Flareside with the chrome package that way... Good deal on it too...

Nice, and helpful. My point is that he needs to negotiate a better trade price to offset the cost of the tranny.
But I also reread this thread. If the OP had a tranny rebuild 23k ago, what's the warranty? The missing details of this thread makes this a frustrating read.
