This cant be happening......
I believe you missed the point.
Maybe its a different mindset in California, but what you are saying is that his truck will gain value from having a new transmission put in it?
In order for him to cover his cost of putting a new transmission in it, as you alluded, he or his broker can use that as a selling point to get him more money than if the failure had never happened?
Never heard of that, and it's laughable at best to me. I have negotiated many vehicles, and I see where you're coming from, but do you really think that a dealer or the common buyer (not us junkies) sees it that way?

Nice, and helpful. My point is that he needs to negotiate a better trade price to offset the cost of the tranny.
But I also reread this thread. If the OP had a tranny rebuild 23k ago, what's the warranty? The missing details of this thread makes this a frustrating read.

Sorry I am a terrible typer. I'm going to check with the old shop today and see what they say. There's no way I'm telling him that makes the truck look ragged out. He's already hesitant enough to buy cause it is white. Trans only slips starting from a stop in D when I shift to 1 does not slip. There's really no negotiating. I'm getting a good deal with a 2 year warranty.
As you saw I edited my post, once I re-read it. Intent was not to flame.
However there is value in a new tranny if negotiated properly, especially considering that the existing tranny is six years old and "dying". The question is how much?
To the OP: putting in a new tranny is the "politically correct" fix I know, and I am a little embarrased that I suggested it. Depending on what your conscience let's you live with, just take it to your last tranny shop get the issue "fixed" at a much lower cost, trade, then run like hell (to the next buyer: Please forgive me!). Like Chis says, the issue could be a small one...at least small enough to "fix" and get the OP out the door.
The question remains however, is that the old tranny had work done. There has to be a warranty the you can take advantage of. If not, you're going to be out some money, unfortunately.

Well looking at a standpoint of the transmission is slipping, disregarding what you will do in the future, the first thing you would do is see if something could be done other than full replacement.
I believe that a fully new transmission with a written warranty would be great if you were privately selling, and you could get some costs of it back, but your broker and dealers are going to just say "Well that's nice."
Talk to brokers and dealers that you KNOW you will not be dealing with and get their perspective on it.

very true i will try. I really dont want to screw this guy cause he is really nice guy and all my friends who have dealt with him hgave very good quality used cars. plus im getting a 2 year warranty that covers everything on the new truck except waerable parts. Dropped the truck off this after noon. was a terrible 30 mile drive from house. Tranny got worse and worse the father i went but still no more warnings. ill keep you guys updated on whats happening wish me luck.
ok hears what the guy toldme.
He said a $30 sensor whent out that reads the temp. of the tranny. Therefore the computer didnt know what to do about cooling which in turn cause it to burn itslef up. i think it has something to do with me washing the underside the night before.....

To the OP, so the Tranny is damaged? Or does the sensor just need replacing?
Yes the transmission needed to be rebulit again. The sensor failed which cause the transmission cooling system to not read the transmission temp properly. The transmission cooked itself basicly. Should have known when I smelled the tranny dipstick. Let's say I learned a lesson the hard way. Only thing is I have sprayed the underside of the truck at least 50 times to get all the mud off. I guess it took a good direct spray tothe tranny like I was doing. I plan on my next truck getting a tranny temp guage or a gryphon tuner cause I think they display trans temp too. Plus I can get me performance too.
