Maintenance on my 04

I am about to hit 68,000 miles on my truck and I wanna do all the precautionary maintenance I can to it. I change my oil every 5000 miles. I am planning on getting my mechanic to change out the Tranny Fluid and do a radiator flush too. I am also going to get him to look at the water on the floorboards too. Spark Plugs & Rear End Fluid Change is coming around 100k.

Any other suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated!

I would have your spark plugs changed a lil sooner then 100,000. Just had mine done at 110k and it costed me 631$ to have all replaced...

if you wait till 100K to do your plugs you risk them breaking. i just got mine done at 80,000 and 1 broke so i was a lil lucky. ive read worse stories haha.

Next year is going to be maintenece for me and just little mods. (2011) I want to do tranny flush, plugs and coils, have TB cleaned, Wagner Thermo Quiets put on and possibly rotors if need be. I have 45k on her now, prolly close to 60 by next summer.

Like others have said, I would do the plugs sooner than 100,000 miles, but thats just me. Next year I plan on doing the plugs, and both diffs. I had the tranny flushed this last fall at a local shop, it cost me just under $100, much better than up to $200 at a tranny shop or $160 at the dealership. My 04 has 48K on it, but it had 30K when I bought it over 4 yrs ago. So I do all the maintenance that is required since I now have way too much money in accessorys on this truck to get rid of it.

Yup I worked my but off for a nice truck. Guess what i paid for it? The old guy had it custom ordered too.

11k - I had saved my money and wrote the guy a check at 17 years old last year (February 15, 2009). I'm happy

I bought mine for 12k in July w/ 55,000 That was much cheaper than I thought I could do it for. I was shocked that all the Fords around here were for the high 17s

It never ceases to amaze me at how easily people seem to get ripped off on the plug change.

There has got to be a set price to change the plugs in the 5.4 3V and if they break some thats on the shop doing the work. It's common knowledge the plugs may rust and seize after 100k. The easy fix it to spray some penetrating oil in the holes the night before and they should come out ok in the am.

Mine were done at 100k and 2 broke. That night they shot them with oil and they next day the other 6 came out no problem. I asked them how much before they started and that is what it cost.

Yep. I know dealers can set their own labor rates and such but I would think that Ford would at least set up some kind of standard price structure the plugs on the 3v engines. After all it is a design flaw of an engine made and produced by Ford.

Ok well I got quoted $387 from my Mechanic I've been using since I bought my truck. He said he would charge that flat rate no matter how long it takes him to get them out. Unless the head has to be removed for a really broken head. I will pay extra for that if that is the case. I also am getting a Transmission flush and transmission condition for $200.

So I am looking at $587 out the door hopefully. I think this sounds good especially since I have heard of guys on here paying upwards of $500-$600

What do y'all think?
