Aftermarket Gears Fluids ?

Put yukon 4.88's in my truck last month , i love them so far.

Anywho-

Went to get the fluids changed in the differentials after the 500 mile "break in" period today and asked the guy whens the next time i need to change the fluids , he said every 7,500-10,000 miles.

Im just curious if a fluid change is necessary every 7.5-10k, seems abit much to me. i dont remember changing the fluids with my stock gears and im at 48k.

Any input from the gear guru's on this ?

When I got my new differential cover put on, they put some Limited slip fluid in there, they said that fluid would last a while, cant remember how many miles it was I wanna say 30,000 miles. The fluid was like $25 a quart and it took 5 quarts.

I changed mine at the 500 mile break-in period and never again. I would recommend getting the mag-hytech diff cover, if you don't already have one, and getting royal purple fluid (already has additive in it) and not worrying about it. If it makes ya feel good do it every 10-15k I guess. Honestly the fluid in mine has been in for about 50k with no problems, I will probably change it once the OD TICKS 75k here soon.

x2, I love mine, would look badass on yours. Doesnt the mag cover carry more fluids than the stock ones, I think it takes 2 more quarts

x3 on the Royal Purple. If you tow much you may want to change it sooner. I personally change mine at least every 30,000 miles. I mean it's pretty darn inexpensive maintenance.

Replace it with synthetic oil and don't worry about it. If you subject your truck to water crossings, you might want to change it periodically.

Motorcraft synthetic works great in mine. Don't forget the Motorcraft friction modifier.

Yeah that works also just another added cost to buy the friction modifier. We have so guys around here that are hard core royal purple that say change all the fluids in the rearend, trans, tcase, etc and forget about it and never touch it again.

Go with a good synthetic, Ford, RP, Redline Etc. Ford doesn't specify a change interval, but the dealer reccomends about 100 K. I just did mine at 120000, and the fluid looked good. I used Redline with 2 bottles of Modifier, per the Ford techs. I want a mag-hytech so bad, I can't stand it, but they dont fit my Expd, due to the rear crossmember.

Yeah something under $10 sure breaks the bank. Honestly for me if something works I'll stick with it.

I just broke 11,000 miles on my truck now and was wondering if changing my gear oil out to Royal Purple would be worth it.
