Selling 05 F150 scam or just paraniod?

Hey guys im selling my truck locally because i need to down size to an suv and was wondering if anyone thinks that i might be getting scammed. I have never sold a vehicle and have done my best to research online. Heres the deal i had my truck for sale on craigslist for just under a month and i way over priced it. Three weeks after i posted i get a reply from a very persisant person who wants to come and look at it right away. So we set up a date and time and he really likes what he saw and was willing to pay full price. He says its for his boss's company and that his boss thinks it over priced but still wants to buy it for his employees company vehicle. He then goes to tell me he wants to give me a check for $5000 to deposit and cash it right away just to make sure i wont sell the truck to anyone else. He says he will pick up the truck and make the rest of the payment after he returns from out of town (this is the fishy part). Later in the evening he sends me an e-mail asking to send him the bill of sale, full name, address, vin and that he will send the cheque of $5,000 the next day so i can deposit and cash it right away. So i told him that we can do the deal when he gets back from out of town with the full amount and not to worry that i will not sell the vehicle to anyone else. He then requested to have my last name so he can have payment ready. After all of this i went online and found something that seems familiar at this link. http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Scam/
Any thoughts on this? Am i just the most paraniod person in the world?

100% SCAM

these people do this all the time. Don't do it.

If the guy comes back with full payment, take him to the Bank and have him write the check to himself for cash.

Then take the full amount IN CASH ONLY!!!!!

I just sold a old POS Mercury Minivan and had scammers left & right trying similar stuff. Usually guys offering $1,000 over what I wanted if I would accept a check, and then wire $500 to them and pocket the "extra" $500.

btw, don't give your name out either. If they cannot scam you, they will instead use all the info about you they can gather so they can steal your identity.

Money talks.

First thing is whether or not you have the pink in hand or if you owe the bank.

I have seen some things where people are given cashiers checks etc... that are no good. So make sure it clears as legitimate.

The fact the guy showed up in person to look at the vehicle is a good sign though as I would think most scammers would never come in person.

If you send him a bill of sale make sure that you put the full price and the amounts deposited and owed.

Hopefully you are just being paranoid and will get everything you want.

the way the scam works, and sadly people fall for it is they hope you accept the 5k deposit and give the vehicle to the person, you go to cash the check and its bad, And never hear from them again.

Tell him to give you a check for the full amount and he can have the truck after the payment goes through. It should a few days for the check to clear.

I had scammers try to respond to me selling a bumper on craigslist. Those people need to be punished severely.

Paranoid or Scam

Tell him you'll meet him at his bank and can draw the money then and do all the paperwork at the same time. Bet you won't see him again.

I never had a situation like this, but however I would get calls everyday from a company wanting me to pay them to advertise my listing for me. If it didn't sell within about 30 days they would give me my money back and then some. It was pretty annoying because I was thinking every time it was a potential buyer.

I have had this happen to me more times then I can count.

As far as what your asking... SCAM I'd stay far away.

I was selling a Mountain bike for 900 bucks on Craigs about a year ago.

Things didn't quite add up but I thought why not. But then I got a money order for 3 times what i was asking... Seemed great but was not. Luckly I never did anything with it and sold the bike local. It was some sort of Nigerian scam is what the police said.

Out of town, pay the balance when I return, etc, etc. Scam.
I won't knock Craigs because I've bought and sold successfully there, but
buyer and seller beware.
