As Requested... Pics of exhaust...

Like I said last night, my 04 I picked up came with true dual exhaust... From the looks of it, they look like Flowmaster 40s or 50s (sound more mellow like 50s) The piping is 2 or 2.25" all the way back with dirty tips (need to clean). From what I can tell, I have stock cats still... I am considering 'dumping' the pipes over the axle... I would keep the tips in case I wanted to re install, but normally I dump em...

I have heard good and bad about having true duals, so with this set up do I need to stay with stock intake to avoid too much air in and out? Or go ahead with a AEM brute force style setup??

I know the truck needs some TLC under there as well!!

DANG it was cold outside!!!! Will get a closer look when it warms up!

Thanks!

Needs an X-pipe. Other than that looks pretty good.

^ x2 Them are 40's. I don't think you will like the sound w/o tips. Either leave the tips or cut the pipes off at the end of the mufflers and DON"T put on turn downs! my 2 cents

I am thinking about that too... Replacing all the really orange crap out by the cats (possibly cats too) and putting in an X pipe there...

^ if you do cut off those pipes at the muffler, have a shop put in an H pipe. MUCH better sound!

It's truely not loud right now, if y'all think it will get obnoxious I will just leave it... I just like the clean look of dumped and not tail pipes to clean...

If you take the cats out and cut off pipes, it will be loud! I suggest cutting off the pipes at muffler, pop in an H pipe, and leave the cats alone. That will give you some interior resonance and a really nice flowmaster deep tone out side!

Knowing my luck if I delete the cats I will get caught... Never failed in my younger years... LoL... I will leave em if they aren't terribly filthy... Or replace if so...

What about stock air intake with drop in dry flow or a full air intake system?

Maggi Hi flows would be good if your clogged. No cats and cut off it just too damn loud. That is the only reason I put tail pipes on... I gave $80 for my ebay CAI with a K&N filter on it. I noticed some throttle response, and a minor gain in mpg. The intake debate is a big one. Unless your tuning it, I wouldn't recommend spending $300 for one...

04 and 05's had near lean condition from the factory. When you put an air intake on it it screws the computer up and makes the lean condition worse. UNLESS you plan to add a tuner with the intake at the same time do not bother with it. Also you will not notice any real gain with just an intake and not a tuner.

just do the gotts mad and ad a k&n drop in filter.

As for the exhaust it looks pretty well done. As stated you do need either and x or h pipe. I would leave it completely alone and just spend the small amount to get an x or h pipe. That will sound alot better then it does now also.

Do some searching on this site and other f150 forums. You will find so much info on everything I and others stated here your head will hurt, lol!

Get an X pipe. Better sound and flow.

That depends... If your keeping tail pipes go X pipe! If your cutting off pipes at muffler go H pipe! You won't be able to do it right behind the cats. Note the pic.
