When was your truck built? After July 2006? If so, you have a 5yr/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty
He has to be the original owner for that warranty. If he's not original owner he had the 3/36 which has expired. Mine expires tomorrow at 34k.

Sealed tranny on 06s? Lifetime fluid? That's a new one. My scheduled maintenance calls for fluid change at 30k.

The born on date is right on the window sticker. If you know your vin # I can look up your sticker or you can.

http://services.forddirect.fordvehic...icker.pdf?vin=

just add your vin to the end of the link.

EDIT the warr info is also on the sticker, it is on mine.

All new f150's have lifetime fluid. Your "scheduled maintenance" only calls for 30k 60k.... if you are operating at "extrememe conditions" But now your Stealerships schedule maintenance calls for trans service at 30k.

Ford says on their website that you do not have to have your trans serviced at 30k to maintain your warranty.

Now I am not saying to anyone not to change theirs, economy needs to be stimulated ...just stating the facts. I personally dont' believe any fluid is lifetime, but I dont believe in 30k changes either.

I had mine flushed at 37,000 and the trans took a dump at 92k, I don't think this is a trans fluid issue. IMO the trans in these trucks are mediocre at best. Since I've had my issue I've seen at least 10 threads pop up about transmissions going out.

Opinion.

For the guys with zero transmission issues the transmissions are strong. For the guys with transmission failure the transmissions are weak.

the 04-08 5.4 tranny has what is considered a "Sealed" tranny with lifetime fluid in there.

I agree, it ain't sealed. Just a terminology thing.

exactly...especially for the Supercharged guys like myself and a few others.

I was running +100 HP more than 99% of the 04-08 guys and had zero issues. I drove that truck like I stole it.

you can't tell me it has a weak tranny.

People need to remember that the majority of folks find F150Online because their truck is experiencing a problem. Out of the Millions of them that are built, Ford will have a few here and there.
not saying it's right, or cool...but **** happens.

I feel for each one of you that has had it happen

Had the fluid changed at 32k. Did notice that the tranny temp runs cooler now.

If its "sealed" why does Ford recommend changing it at certain intervals?

I'm just about to call BS on this whole transmission thing. Change the fluid, don't change the fluid. Flush...don't flush.

I am going to seek out a transmission expert and talk with him. Maybe a couple of them.

I have no problem with maintenance BUT I cannot deny I have heard many that changed it and 3-8 months later failure.

I have had many cars and trucks in my life. Very few I've changed the trans fluid. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

Going back to my 80's mechanic schooling...dirt and heat are THE enemy of the auto transmission. Keep'em cool and keep'em clean you should NEVER have ANY problems EVER.

I just talked to an independent transmission rebuild shop. He was very kind to answer my questions on changing fluid or not.

He said Ford has a lot of friction modifiers in their fluid that break down over time. Regular fluid changes for them are a good idea to replenish these. Transmissions with regular changes can easily go 180 to 200K miles with no troubles as opposed to 100-120K miles with out changes.

LOTS of changes in trans fluid in the last 10-15 years.

He changes his personal vehicles at 30-40K intervals and sees much longer life in trans.

Also these guys that go 60-80K before changing and then change and trans fails?...the clutches get used to the old fluid and the glue that holds them together starts to deteriorate. Put in new fluid and the detergents accelerate the deterioration and it fails shortly after.

Over all he said regular changes are the way to go. Longer trans life.

He thinks flushes without a filter change are a waste. Like changing oil and leaving dirty filter on. Also the magnet in the pan can only hold so much and then dirt goes back into system.

Hope this helps...it has helped me make my decision.

So I checked the sticker on the drivers door.

The date says 08/05.... But I didn't buy the truck until Feb 07...

So I'm I still covered under the 5 year 60 thousand drive train warranty?

There was also to other number on there F0198 and T0655...

What are these?

Actual mileage on the trcuk is 55,998.7

EDIT: I wrote this down at 5 this morning so I'm really hoping the 05 is an 06.
