broken strut (again)

ok i have the roush suspension. my passenger side strut broke before right where the threads end and the shaft begins. got a new strut from roush for free, but took forever to get it. well guess what, the same side broke again and looks like the same place. i ordered a set of belltech 2in drop shocks as i dont want to deal with the warranty process anymore, and i am hoping the belltechs are just a better shock. here is my question, i have installed close to a dozen sets of struts before and never had this problem. what could be causing this? at first i thoguht maybe a defective shock but it happened again so i am not so sure now. will the belltech's fix it? i mean i just dont knowwhat is causing this. any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

Are you possibly over torquing the nut?

Our style F-150s eat struts. I broke the passenger side one on my truck last month and it took almost 2 weeks to get one from napa. They told me they sell the crap out of them for some reason. Honestly I think its a bit of a design defect. That shaft is rather undersized considering it is what keeps the coilover setup together. It takes a hell of a lot of abuse and is a major stress point.

Another thing to look at, are your strut caps warn at all? Mine were all rounded out where the strut mounts into. If your strut is wiggling around in the tower its possible the nut works loose and that the shaft can break.

i do have pics, will post them later. dont think i over tightened it, same side broke twice (this is the second time). i am hoping the belltechs fix this issue. if it happens again i may have a breakdown. i even added another nut to hold it on there so it wont back out. i dont know. we shall see.

well i got it fixed today. strut did not break. the nut backed out then the strut banged the tower and bent. i have no idea how it backed off but it did. so now i am running beltechs with the roush springs. so far i am very happy. truck rides a lot better then before. i think these are a much better shock.
