CL find F150 STX Model

Just picked up this truck 08/07/09. Looks pretty good with few dings and the tailgate has some issues. It's got a flowmaster exhaust and 18 rims from a Navigator. It's only the 4.6L engine, but it has OK power. Could be better with some mods I think, but do not want to ruin the gas mileage. Guy we bought it from was original owner. Still had the sticker 28K+ originally.
Initial impressions. Seats are pretty hard. It has a few squeak and clunky sounds on the rougher roads. Not quite as tight as my Tundra. Rides good on the highway. Very smooth on a good road. Looks sharp as hell to me with the STX body package and those wheels.
I do need the trim for the tailgate or a new tailgate alltogethor.
I got it for 7500 with 78K miles on it what do you guys think?

Looks to be in alright shape.

All '04-'08 STXs were 4.6s only.

I hate those stupid chrome Navigator wheels, only because they're a real pain to get to zero out on a balancer.

And you can get just the plastic trim piece for the top of the tailgate. Snaps into place, done.

First off, welcome!! Not a bad deal for $7500, although it does look like it had a rough life before you got it.

I think you could get the 5.4 STX with 4x4 only.
could be wrong though.

The truck is an STX (special edition) Extended cab 6.5 2wd with the 5.4, i think they were only special order or certain dealer packages. this one was a dealer ad special so it was a steal at 21K new

Wish I could have found one with a 5.4
Mine was 18k new so I guess I cant be to mad.
The only STX 5.4 i have ever seen were 4x4. I love the STX look, and dont need 4x4 so I settled for a 4.6

BTW the truck looks great. I would go and get a whole new tailgate top and it will look amazing.

The price is good. Looks like an '05... I hope the original owner kept up the regular maintenance, because he did not take care of the body... What's the story with the tail gate? The sounds may come from the tail gate. It doesn't look like it closes all the way. That a side, it's a very good looking body style and with a little TLC you will have a great truck...

other than the tail-gate...very nice looking truck.

I'd see if you could swap the rims center caps out with those from a Lariat or a Expedition. The Lincoln emblems throw it off for me.

and I personally would just yank the tailgate and but a mesh gate on it. Cheap, effective, and looks decent on a stepside.

good find at $7,500. Hope the drivetrain is in decent shape

Thanks everyone. It's an 04. The tailgate got damaged by a heavy load from the previous owner. He worked for the railroad so it's probably had a few good loads driven on it. I think he said it was a load of crossties that got it. He probably slid them in and the weight pulled the one end down on it and knocked the trim off. It still shuts and locks on both ends, but it is bent out on one end pretty bad as you can see. I'm gonna check around and see how hard it is to find a replacement. Anybody know if the tailgate for the STX was exclusive to that model or will other 04-08 model tailgate's will interchange?
I can live with it if I have to, but at least need the trim. The plan for the bed was spray in liner to clean it up as much as possible. It's also only got manual door locks and windows. I actually like the manual windows, one less thing to break and cost you $300 to fix. Gonna have to put some tires on those wheels as well pretty soon. It's got 285 60 18 Nitto's on it now, but we will probably go for something less pricey when that time comes.

back when I used my truck for work I ripped my tailgate cap off I was nervous it was going to be 100 bucks but my dealership gave me one for $30 so just go pick one up. and yes all the tail gates are the same. all that stx means is crank windows, rubber floor, ptm bumpers, and ugly **** mirrors. there may be a few others but those are the biggies.

7500 for an '04 extended with those miles is not a bad deal, how does the interior look?

Interior is clean. It's got seat covers. Looks new. Went to picnpull today looking for a tailgate. Guy said to check back on Wed. That is the day they get all new inventory. About the interior though I have a question. What does everyone do about floor mats with that slick STX package floor. It has some mats that came with it but, they are a PITA. They slide around all the time and slip out from under you when you get in the truck. Anyone have a solution or different mats that do not slip?
