I was driving the other night and noticed the backlight on my trip/compass display wasnt working and was wonderin if anyone can say if it is hard to fix or if i just have to live with it.????

 

mine did the same thing u have to buy a hole new cluster and they are high about 400 dollers.

 

Mine went out about a month ago. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to buy a new cluster, just have to replace the led light behind it, which may take some soldering skills. Not sure, but you shouldn't have to replace cluster I wouldn't think?

 

Mine is out as well. I am going to replace the led this weekend.

 

It is very easy just look at this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...rior-leds.html Follow the Instrument cluster easy as far as how to get the cluster out. Then you are just going to need to take out the lowest left gray screw base after taking the plastic guard on back. I'm typing this up really fast, but if you have another questions just ask. I'm sure I'll be on to answer before the weekend.

 

I changed it (Super easy) - it was a bulb. I removed to old bulb from the holder; pop the new one in. Thanks

 

Holy crap, I hope they gave you your old cluster back, and didn't just change out the bulb, and charge you for a new cluster

 

not hard at all just get the leds at the dealer and follow the DIYs

 

Okay I am confused, mine went out also but is it a light bulb or is it a led? If it is a light bulb I will make it a led. From the pics of the cluster in the other thread it looks like there is a socket behind what would be the display, but I could be wrong. I would like to have the materials in hand before I start the project.

It is just a regular bulb. I just read lsracer's thread last night and the bulb size was 78. I want to change all of my stock dash bulbs out someday to all leds.

 

Thank you, I was reading through the thread but either skipped over it or didn't get to it yet. I think I am just going to do them all now since I have the time and the reason to take the dash apart.
